So there has been some chat about Hibs linking up with an American Club! Nobody knows who it is but if you could choose who would it be and why?

Also what is your speculation on any potential benefits of the link?:flag:

Where is it Ron is based in America?

What’s the closest MLS team and division below that to wherever it is he is based?

Seems a good starting point for guess work.

Is there any cases where clubs being linked is successful for all parties?

The Man City set of teams seem to do a good job in sharing their network in all sorts of ways. The Red Bull teams similar I think.

Not technically a US team, but MLS.

I think we previously represented Toronto in the inaugural season. And since I have family there, I'd like to see us rekindle that relationship :greengrin

Has that brought any benefit to Man City? Genuine question. I don’t know the answer to that.

Did Aberdeen not get a player from their MLS club they are linked to? Also got a South American full back I think that may have been linked to their MLS club.

Probably minimal right now but for the 'top' club it is a long game - their ambition seems to be to have a major club on each continent. In theory you get a ready made scouting and academy system in place.

I think there is also longer term development of coaches and players that can be run through the clubs.

For the other teams in the structure I guess they get a potential source of players to help develop and the staff. I think City sent Vieira to coach New York for example.

Yes they get to fiddle the books on FFP rules and confuse the authorities.

Stephen Glass is interim manager at Atlanta United so we have a bit of a connection there.

Yeah that's the team, one of the best average attendances in the world I believe, 60-70,000 average!

The holding company Bydand is registered in Delaware which would make Philadelphia Union the nearest MLS team.

I would imagine it is registered in Delaware only for tax reasons. I wouldn't read much into that. Its a very small place that smells a lot of Cow Sh**.

Been at a couple of games, atmosphere pretty close to a European club game. Stadium is insane. Amazing facilities.

Scotsman article today is good. By powers of deduction they suggest its an MLS2 club, Hartford Athletic

Previously owned some Telemundo stations in the US, which would suggest that Miami would be a focus (Telemundo is based in Coral Gables, Florida).

Selfishly, LAFC, as that's my home team here in LA. Unfortunately, LAFC posted Celtic related item that they had received through Adidas. I did send a note to the Head of Commercial telling him to get some Hibs merchandise in instead :D

San Jose Earthquakes....They have a good academy, have history of using youth as its the cheap option.

Would be good exposure for them to get players to The European market, while they get an established club sending them prospects to work with for a season.

Jack Harrison is out on loan at Leeds. Started out at Man U, went to college in the US. New York City took him in the draft and he's now at Man City

As I have a few friends in Wisconsin and already own a Packers jersey (great colours) I would want Forward Madison FC. I think the only pro football team in Wisconsin ?! Albeit the third tier !

I remember seeing them at Easter Road in the early 80's, George Best played for them that night. We won but all I seem to remember about the actual game is George Best going on a mazy right in front of me as I stood at the front of the East Terrace.

It was a Monday night and I was meant to be at pipe band practice. When my folks found out that I was at the match instead (they'd already said no) I was grounded for 2 weeks.

San Jose earthquakes have a link up with Tottenham already, Spurs were mentioned as a club we’ve visited in the Evening News article so there might be a possibility it is them.

49ers.

Am wondering if you have some useful inside information ?
Thought this comment was a bit random until I read this article about Leeds involvement with the 49ers

https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/leeds-san-francisco-49ers-investment-premier-league

Am in no position to speculate or even suggest that there is to be a tie in with an NFL club , but if Ron Gordon was suggesting the club he was talking to has a turnover in the hundreds of millions of dollars , would suggest this was an NFL club rather than a MLS club. The largest revenue figures are Atlanta who are around $78 million

Possibly an organisation who owns an NFL club and a soccer club. But maybe just a wild theory

If it's an NFL club then I hope it's not the Eagles.

We're so bad right now it's probably contagious.

The City Group bought Melbourne Heart for fairly small sum and rebadged them as Melbourne City. Later they acquired Aaron Mooy from Melbourne City and put im out on loan to Huddersfield Town. Huddersfield gained promotion and signed Mooy for a bigger sum than was paid for the purchase the Melbourne City club.

Since then Jack Harrison joined New York City while he was studying at College in the USA. He transferred to City and went on loan to Leeds United. He is expected to sign full time for Leeds for an sum of around £20 million.

City also secured a seeason long loan for Frank Lampard a few seasons back because of the New York City links.
