Watched this last night and thought it deserved its own thread.
A lot of what it told me wasn't exactly a surprise, I'm sure most of us know we're being targeted by ads but it was the effect social media is having on younger generations that scared me.
There's no easy way to solve it though. Seriously worrying.

Aye I saw it advertised on Netflix, i'll give it a watch over the weekend
Could be similar to The Great Hack uncovering the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
Agree that its unsurprising, but scary

The information these companies hold on you is frightening, that along with state sponsored shenanigans means it's only going to get worse, the part about them not caring who won the election was interesting and that they are just out to cause disruption and undermine the democratic process with bots
I see that the appeals court in America has also ruled that the information gathered by the NSA leaked by Snowdon was illegally obtained too

Government is in the pocket of big business (or in the case of China, it's one and the same).
Nothing will be done by the people that are supposed to be in charge while those businesses are funding their campaigns, paying massive amounts to influence Governments at every turn and giving them 'pay-offs' after the fact with lucrative speaking tours (looking at you, Tony Blair).
The EU has at least tried to tackle the influence of data-mining companies, as well as tried to force them to pay taxes, which is probably a large part of the motivation for Brexit.
Social Media, and the unhealthy influence it has on the young, is another matter entirely and I don't honestly see a way to tackle that.... outside of banning anyone under the age of 25* from using a Mobile Phone.
* Age chosen at random, please don't read too much into it :-)

I watched that it last night also and it is really is quite worrying. Just mentioned on another thread how polarised the world has become and to hear them
Explaining why was really interesting and in equal measure scary.
I watched the Cambridge analytica one that someone mentioned earlier. I can’t mind exactly off the top of my head but I am sure it was that at one point they had 5000 data points on all FB registered voters.
