Funny that I was thinking Gordan Petric.

Worst miss in history must surely be on hearts missing out on the 2016 Scottish Cup. All they had to do was see the last ten out 🤣🤣🤣

Allez allez allez.

Wow. That whole sequence leading up to the miss was brutal as well. Maybe the quality in the SPL isn't so bad after all!

That is very funny; what a miss?

From a Scotland perspective, I still have nightmares about this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqkShPKgAbw

The Van Vossen one is obviously a great example of an open goal miss. I also recall a Celtic player doing something similar, but can't recall who.

Think the Iwelumo one is the worst I’ve ever seen.
Was it Cummings that missed from almost under the crossbar at Raith recently IIRC - pretty bad.

I remember playing a school game once and a looping cross came over and beat everyone, it was dropping right on my mate who was inches out, just left of centre of the goal. All he had to do was stand there and let ball hit off him and it would have gone in. However he's taken a notion to jump and meet it and headed it over the bar from literally inches out!! :faf: :faf:

That PSG one is unbelievable. Its like he realises he doesn't need to touch it and tries to pull out and kicks it backwards

All Agathe had to do was pass the ball into the net with his left foot

He was too one footed and seemed to get his studs caught in the turf

Probably the reason we let him go :na na:

When it came to football I used my left foot for standing up, and even that was a struggle so I'm not going to criticise Agathe.

At least he didn't do anything after leaving us:boo hoo:

Biggest mistake McLeish made as our manager. Converted to a right back ffs. We can only imagine how devastating Agathe could have been if he’d been allowed to develop up front. What a waste.

Im sure Agathe was devastated to swap a potential 15 goals a season at Hibs for a uefa cup final and a few trophies for celtic at right back

Agathe was some player

A gross miscalculation

We gave him a way out and he took it

Kudos to Martin O’Neill

Didier Agathe was our worst miss!

We always look at it from our angle but “kudos to O’Neill” is a fair shout.

Taking a striker on a 3 month contract at Hibs who had signed for nowt from Raith and turning him into a wing-back, a mainstay of a solid team with some genuinely top class players?

Sair yin for us but what a bit of business for them.

A waste as in O’Neill turning him into a full back when he had all the attributes to be a devastating striker.

Steve Nicol for Scotland against Uruguay in the opening stage of the 1986 World Cup.

I think that was maybe the first time I heard the expression ‘Group of Death’. Uruguay were thuggish and that is being kind, but a win against them might have seen us through, IIRC. Given we also had West Germany and a Denmark team with a front two of Michael Laudrup and Preben Elkjaer, let alone their midfield, we showed up and were plucky but just fell short (again).

IIRC Nicol was being played as an attacking midfielder or auxiliary forward, despite normally playing at the back for Liverpool- though even there I think he played both sides as full back and at centre half in various games. He must be the epitome of a utility player, the eighties Jamie Milner.

Anyway, he took away a bag of medals from his time at Anfield, including a European Cup win, so it wasn’t all bad.

Taking things off-course a little, but I had a look at that 1986 squad.

Out of 22, only three were OF, ten were Scottish clubs outwith the OF.

The rest played in the top-flight in England, bar one who was with Barcelona, one who was with Sampdoria and our then third-choice keeper who was with Oldham

I think it was 1973 when we played Leeds in the Uefa cup and just could not score against an understrength team. Hazel or Higgins (can't remember) contrived to miss while actually standing on the goalline.

This is the one I was thinking of. I had misremembered it slightly as I had pictured it as Bannon putting it over the bar but it's still a lovely example of an own not-goal.

If you mean the match at Elland Rd it was big Tony that missed the sitter with a header from about 2 yds out:thumbsup:

I was there and Tony was the Mom that night.

No I meant the second leg. Bremner played sweeper for Leeds and they fielded a strange line-up.
We just couldn't score.
