Agnorant: people who are extremely ignorant, yet are simultaneously extremely arrogant.
Example: people who think they know more about science than scientists.
Saw the above on Facebook earlier, and in light of the anti-mask rally happening today, thought it worth sharing.
There is definitely a culture now where idiots shout long and loud at everyone, telling them they knows better than everyone else etc.
It’s fairly depressing, to be honest.
....but what if they seen it on their mate (from the pub) Darren's youtube channel?

:greengrin we all know it’s true if it’s on YouTube, they don’t just let anyone post there!

The amount of people in twitter who take the “red pilled” attitude and think they are free thinkers because they have taken an alternative opinion to most everything because they watch a handful of awful people on YouTube and spout that as their own critical thought is an embarrassment to humanity

There is a thread on Facebook about getting your kids a flu vaccine in the run up to the season. It’s from the NHS, I assumed the comments would be matter of fact, broadly supportive. The majority, (and I’m not exaggerating, actually about 75% of the posts, dozens and dozens), were ranting about how they would never ever consider it, the vaccine is giving kids illnesses, scare stories about deaths and reduction in immunity etc etc. If you allow your kids to be vaccinated you are a sheep putting your kids in danger. So unbelievably ignorant and arrogant, as you say. Anti Vaxxers, give us peace.

It's a well known scientific fact that vaccinations cause autism, heart disease, strokes, traffic accidents and a multitude of other serious ailments. Many people who get vaccinated go on to experience the aforementioned issues as opposed to dying from avoidable diseases.

I used to think these anti vaxers were all on the payroll of Hoover.
Other vacuum cleaners are available.

The agnorant are the kind of people who describe themselves as a 'silent majority' without a hint of irony. They never shut the **** up.

It's one of the curses of social media, I have never seen so many people who think having an opinion is the same as a fact, by all means have your crazy ideas on any given subject but it doesn't mean you are right no matter how much you go on about it
What I don't get with these kind folk and the conspiracy nuts is why are they all conspiracies, it's like you are either in or out with them all, I'm pretty level headed and take each one at face value and look into it, there are some things that have happened before that I can see as plausible and others that are totally outrageous

I think it was that Flat Earth documentary that has a guy that said (something along the lines of) “intelligent people are full of doubt and ignorant people are certain they’re right.”

From Susie Dent (seemed appropriate to post here)
Word of the day is 'ipsedixitism': the dogmatic insistence that something is a 'fact' without providing any supporting evidence.

Social media gives everyone a platform and a voice, and it is human nature to follow those who are confident and speak in easy terms.
Take the whole coronavirus business. It has given the world’s best epidemiologists, virologists and many others the run around as they grasped to do “good science” to learn to understand it properly. You can either show a bit of patience and allow them the time they need to understand the situation properly or you can hang on every word Matt le Tissier puts out on Twitter, encouraging him by being one of the many who send him comments back along the lines of “finally, someone who gets it.”

I had the misfortune to encounter someone on FB who was raging about the amount of money this country paid to illegal immigrants in benefits.
I politely informed her that illegal immigrants are not entitled to receive benefits.
"Yes they do" with a vague insult attached was the reply.
I informed her that I had previously been a senior manager in the Benefits Agency for 30 years and could reassure her that illegal immigrants don't receive benefits.
She assured me that they did.
Did PB mean to use the portmanteau "agnorant"? It's entirely accurate.
A quick Google and post and she disappeared, no apology obviously.

They’re right at the heart of Government now. Look at the recent Tony Abbott Board of Trade Appointment.
