Used to drink in there for a time around 2003 when I had an extended stay in San Fran. Alan Black was behind the bar then. A writer and Clyde fan. Good guy who was always happy to chat Scottish football. I think he knew Irvine Welsh quite well. Be interested to hear from some that may know him or the pub on here, imagine we have a few Hibbys based in the City.

On a tour in 1982 to see the Speedway World Final @ LA Coliseum, also visited San Francisco, & frequented the Edinburgh Castle, which was then owned by elderly Dundonian who supported the Tangerines.

Remember:-

The juke box only offered scottish country songs except for Mull of Kintyre with the strict instruction not to play the B side :greengrin

Had a decent dart board

There was a traditional scottish chippie next door & you could bring your suppers into the bar to eat while having a drink.

The last time I was in San Francisco was at the start of a the Scottish football season. In the first match, Celtic were at Easter Road and I was trying my best to find the score. This was not an easy task in the pre-mobile internet era. Eventually I went to a paper shop and found a copy of Scotland on Sunday. Turning to the back page, the score was Hibs 2 Celtic 1. This is going to be a great season, I thought.

It was throughout August and September with Hibs top of the table for much of the time. Then in early October, Hibs went from 3-1 up at half time to lose at 4-3 home to Rangers. Things went badly wrong after that!

Yes - Les was not a favourite & was the only rider to defeat "Juicy Brucey". Mind you if Les had become World Champion, it's doubtful he would have eventually joined the Monarchs.

The wedding in So I Married An Axe Murderer was also shot there.. Sure i’ve heard Irvine say he did readings in there too.

I was only in it the once & it was pretty dead apart from us and the band Elbow. Ended up playing pool with them, sound bunch (apart from the lead singer on the night who was pretty bananas & tried to start a fight with me)
