Within reason, where else in this squad do we need to look at bringing in further additions?

It seems that we'll be looking for another central mid that offers us something different to what we have currently, going from Ross' pre match interviews. Do we see us doing any other business? If so, what other positions do we need?

Still another 3 required
A box to box
A cdm/cb
Forward

Still expect to see a few moved on either sold or loaned out to allow this to happen

A footballer in the middle to keep the ball. That's the main thing.

Combative midfielder
Striker

Prepared to lose Fraser Murray and Hallberg.

In terms of names, Jackson Irvine would be amazing as would Greg Stewart but money talks!

A central midfielder with energy, athleticism and drive. Our midfield is so static, which makes it hard to retain procession. That would be my priority.

Then I’d next look to upgrade Horgans position.

McGeouch

McGeouch has 2 years left on his contract at Aberdeen and can't see them selling to Hibs no matter how cash strapped they are even if JR did want him

We need a central midfielder.

One that can do everything and is not limited. One that fans won’t say well he’s not playing in his proper position, he’s 10 yards deeper than he should be. Energy, drive, aggression and ability on the ball.

A striker in the mould of Greg Stewart that can also create.

Ill get crucified for this but a left back also, said it before I’m just not sure how long we will stick with Doig for this season and return to Stevenson.

Also think we’re in need of a proper left footed direct winger. Horgan has started the season well but is hugely inconsistent. Depends how Wright gets on I suppose as he could maybe fill the void.

Anyone know if we’re still interested in Ross Stewart?

X4 players.

X2 central Midfielders who press the ball / and are comfortable on the ball - not one paced and not another Slivka / Allan / Mallan / Vela type.

Another striker - I like the 3 we have but we need a 4th.

A left winger - left footed - tricky player who is more consistent rather than 1 good game in 5 or 6 (Horgan).

But if being greedy another CB and GK as back up.

Actually think scott Pittman from livingston would be a good signing. Comfortable on the ball and plenty energy.

We have a very good defence, plus two decent strikers. We finally have at least one very good defensive midfielder. We also have (potentially) talented attacking midfield players, but seem to lack a bit of drive through the middle.

We did well on the wings in the first couple of games but that seems to have petered out. I'd imagine opposition managers will have watched our performances in those games and set up their side to close down on Horgan and Boyle (as well as hack down Allan at every turn).

If we had at least one new signing that could take the ball from the defence and push forward to supply our more attack minded players, that would obviously help.

We can't rely on dodgy referees doing us a turn for the rest of the season. Though maybe the influence from the top levels of the SFA is finally starting to work (good job, Rod )

I was saying this last week to my old man. Would go down like a lead balloon with some fans but he’s full of energy and looks after the ball. We could do a lot worse.

A good all-rounder for the midfield.

We've got enough specialists of various types.

He needs to have the energy to get up and down the park, be able to take the ball in under pressure and move it on.

I still think we need someone who will, along with Gogic, provide the base in midfield to allow Allan to do his best stuff in his position. Or if he's out of sorts Mallan, or possibly even Newell in that position.

Another John McGinn is the obvious and totally unrealistic suggestion. Michael Stewart was a very decent player for us and didn't have a weakness in his game other than the team he followed as a kid.

Folk like to say "jack of all trades, master of none" but the best players were often played in the middle of the park because they could do everything. I think we need someone who can do everything.

What's Pat McGinlay up to these days?

What we need is John McGinn's arse.

We've not got a hope in hell of getting the whole player back but I'd take his backside if we could manage. Not sure we could even afford that tbh...

Exactly, doesn't need to be a stand out. Could be the missing piece we need.

Going out:

James - currently third choice at both right and left back so unlikely to see any time on the pitch. If he is earning a decent wage then it would be better utilised elsewhere so he will be moved on.

Mackie - Has been leapfrogged by Doig in development but I still think he is a handy player and could do a job for us as a wing-back or even left midfield but I reckon he will go out on loan again for the season. If we get an offer for a permanent deal I don’t think we would stand in his way, like with Shaw.

F. Murray - We are desperate for some energy and drive in midfield but it doesn’t seem that he’s the answer. Still think there is potential there to be a good player so a loan for the season would benefit him greatly.

Coming in

Centre half - need some defensive cover incase of injuries. Someone who can play across the back-line in both 3 and 4 man defences like McGinn would be good.

Central midfielder - not a defensive midfielder but someone who can operate box to box with energy and drive the team from the middle of the park. Can put their foot on the ball and dictate play. We need some real quality in here and this is the place i would expecting us to spend some money on to get someone for the starting 11.

Striker - we are short up front so a forward to provide cover for injuries. Someone with a bit of pace who can operate up front or out wide and be a useful option to bring off the bench later in games when our first choices are fit and playing.

We're relying on McGregor and Gray for cover if anything happens to Porteous, Hanlon or McGinn. No doubt they can step in for the odd suspension but longer term it would be good to have someone else in.
It may be a luxury in these straightened times but another who could play left wing-back would be a nice option. It would need to be a serious upgrade though.
If we lose Boyle, then a forward is definitely required.
It looks like we all agree, along with the manager, that some extra dynamism and quality is needed in the middle of the park but there's not exactly an abundance of top drawer candidates at our price range.
We just can't hold on to the ball under any kind of pressure.
Hallberg has done okay when coming on but the fact he hasn't started yet this season suggests JR doesn't think he's the answer and Murray isn't getting a look in at all.
