I used to stay in Polton, Bonnyrigg, so on Saturday I headed up to the local park off the High Street to support a local lassie and her 2 kids who have been experiencing racial harassment.

As I understand it we are not talking about a concerted campaign by a far-right group, most likely a few cowardly neds who like an easy target. Debora Kayembe is a human rights lawyer with 2 teenagers at home so is vulnerable. From what I know she's been in Scotland for fifteen years and her kids are as Scottish as I am.

We all remember the abuse suffered by Big Marv and our own Mickey Weir is a strong advocate for SRTRC Scotland. Hibs fans have a strong track record in supporting communities.

The local minister and Community Policing are apparently setting up a Neighbourhood Watch. So, if you are a Midlothian resident, please send Debora a FR on Facebook with a private message of support. This is part of a strategy of 'Friends of Debora' to make sure that local residents create a ring of steel around her and put a stop to the abuse.

Excellent reaction!, I watched the initial news story on STV a few weeks ago.
Great to see the neighbours and locals showing their support, which was also on the news at teatime yesterday.

Done.
Absolutely no place for racism anywhere - disappointing that it’s happening on our doorstep.

Sad state of affairs that **** like this is happening in midlothian. How anyone can get their thrills terrorising a woman and her children is beyond me. Utter ****s

Thats a great initiative, :agree: Are Bonnyrigg Rose involved at all? Definitely part of a community clubs remit.

I believe they sent a message of support buddy. The community have another meeting this week so I may hear more.

Apparently her doorbell was going again the night following the gathering. The local minister chapped a few doors in her street, now she has a neighbourhood watch!

Only a matter of time before somebody gets lifted!

This was also my impression but the ongoing harassment suggests there may be more behind this. Either way we want to drive this behavour out of Scottish society.

In 1993, I was involved with the successful Muirhouse Against Racism Campaign (MARC). This video gives a brilliant account of the campaign.

We could do with a similar response in Bonnyrigg.

Actually since I posted this there's been news reports of two other women involved in BLM protests targeted by the gammon for their activism. As has Humza Yousef the Justice Secretary.

They like their soft targets these cowardly fascists. Maybe some of the 40 football lads that turned up to the Bonnyrigg demo will give them a harder target.
