Perhaps I am slow to notice this but, Mcginn has a very decent burst of pace.
Also thought our defence was excellent tonight - I would include Gogic in that as other than a couple of times when he was turned, he was tenacious and tuned in again.

McGinn was my MOTM today. Thought Gogic had his poorest performance yet though.

Same, McGinn reminds me of Joe Davis even if opposite sides of the park, just solid and dependable nothing flash, with a fair turn of speed when required, good player.

Said on previous posts, he’s a player and like big Daz (when he joined) could still have his best years ahead of him

One of the positives of the season has been the improvement in our defending. I thought McGinn was possible MOTM tonight...and while Porteous and Hanlon will have better days distribution wise they still showed the resilience to not concede when they were under pretty much constant pressure in the second half. On the other side Doig was solid enough and got forward well in the first half.

Marciano saved him from giving them a goal first half. Apart from that he was steady and the defenc as a whole is much improved with the protection of Gogic.

He's been very, very good this season.
He's not a player you ever worry about letting us down. Goes out, does his job and doesn't make a fuss.

Possibly my MoTM fairly solid throughout.

When has a McGinn not performed for Hibs?
Thus far he's been our best player.

The only time he’s had less than pass marks was in the Hearts game, and he’s been given the benefit of the doubt by and large because the whole team was poor.
Tonight he showed he can perform when everyone around him is struggling, which is impressive.
Good player, will be important for us over the course of this season.
We were honking going forward tonight, but we defended fairly stoutly.

Thought he was okay last season as a full back but just marking time until we brought better quality in, however, since the position change this season he has been a revelation in a defence that has now put 4 good performances in succession. He is nothing flash but is playing the position well and intelligently. I thought he was great today. His best yet.
A guy brought in cheaply and he now an established starter. Clever business by Ross.

He doesn’t let himself or us down, never drops his head and gives his all. Last games head clash I just knew he would get up, give his head a shake and get on with it. He was clearly affected for 5 mins after as he was mistiming his clearances but he dug in and went on to have a good game.

Talking about pace, I’m surprised by the lack of it from Josh Doig. Seems slow for an 18 year old.

I’m a huge fan of him and think he’s massively underrated.
Hes fast, wins a lot in the air, strong in the tackle and Iv yet to see many wingers get the better of him. I also think he’s very decent on the ball and makes a lot of clever/disguised passes for a right back.

Cant help but think the same. He also tries to beat a man/nick it past him in a tight position and loses it or it goes out of play as he doesn’t have the pace or strength to get on the end of it. It’s worked out for him so far but he’s lucky he’s not been punished by the opposition scoring on a couple of occasions.
He has a lot of developing to do as a player but also physically.
Hes done fine since coming in but I can’t help but feel he would be better suited to a loan spell this season to a championship team as he’s still quite raw, I can’t see him playing left back/wing back for us all season based on what Iv seen so far.
It may sound harsh as he’s only just turned 18 and has handled himself well so far.

He was up against a rapid winger yesterday and was barely passed once. The times you are talking about haven’t been due to lack of pace, he just sometimes makes rash decisions when he’ll never get on the other end of the ball, like all young players do. I’d actually say the 2/3 times he’s opened the legs up down the line then he’s looked fairly quick. He’s made a very good start to his career and putting him on loan would be horrendous. Keep him in the team, allow him to build and grow, and make mistakes.

Agree entirely. Keep him in the team and deservedly so after some cracking games. If players are generally good enough they should be in and around the first team at 18/19.

Not sure what else a defence can do better than not conceding a goal in 90 minutes. I would happy to take that every week, but I am perhaps too easily pleased.

I don’t think Mcginn offers enough going forward when he’s playing fullback, I’d prefer if Gray played instead.

Are all 18 year olds blessed with rapid pace then?

Agreed on his day, but sadly his best days may well be behind him.

You can't reallly hang your hat on gray, he manages about 25 mins then gets injured for 3 months

I think he’s had a tough time with injuries, but he’s been back fit for a while yet and still has plenty to offer imo. I think he’s only 31.
