Big hole in the A68 too, though no injuries.

Being reported that the train was a Scot rail train from Aberdeen to Stonehaven. Could have been worse if it was an East Coast train to London. As it is, 3 carriages derailed down an embankment.

Train derailed was 0638 Aberdeen-Glasgow. It stopped south of Carmont having seen a landslip. It was returning north, initially on the southbound line, then on the northbound having crossed at Carmont.
It then hit a second landslip and derailed as it was returning to Stonehaven.

Scotsman reporting that the driver has died. Absolutely tragic.

If the photos on Twitter are genuine it looks utterly horrific. Sad news about the driver, fingers crossed nobody else has lost their life.

12 on board in total, 6 staff, 6 passengers.

I know a number of posters on here and a fellow Hibs fans are involved in the railways at different levels. I hope they are all safe and thoughts to all involved.

Three deaths is dreadful news, but judging by the pics I'm surprised anyone survived.

Horrific news.

.... and as a side, my brother and nephews stay in Stonehaven, and they have a rail track right behind their garden...like right at their fence and Ive always thought that if a train derails at that part, it will casue utter carnage to his street.

Horrible. Like others have said thankfully the train was quiet. That won’t be of any comfort to those who have lost people though, RIP

Incredible that was thought of and signed off by people.

Such a tragic story. The images of the crushed carriage are awful.

It's maybe a generational thing, but distasteful newspaper headlines don't surprise me or faze me. That one is mild IMO, especially when compared to such as "Gotcha" or "*******s"

I wonder how mild the people who lost a loved one would find it. Personally, I think it is absolutely disgusting.

WTF is Prince Charles doing hanging about pointing at things?

There was a guy on the radio from the union either this morning or yesterday morning basically telling politicians and the like to **** off. This is a tragedy not a photo opportunity, let the professionals do their job was the message. It's hard to argue.

Agreed never really got the practice of a royal or politician visiting the scene, adds absolutely nothing to the aftermath procedure other than to have them pretend they care. It means absolutely nothing to those affected.

Except, the accusations that politicians didn't care enough to visit Grenfell.

Maybe they didn’t care, better than a staged let’s tell the press we’re coming for the publicity in my opinion. I suppose some people may take comfort if they visit but not me.
