I'm trying to think of a time in my life when thunder and lightning in Edinburgh has gone on for so long and I don't think I've seen it like this before, maybe Thor is chuffed with the Hibs result

I’ve lived in some thundery places in my life but I’ve never seen anything like this going on for so long. It started before 10 and that’s almost an hour of pyrotechnics. Bonkers

I've never seen a thunderstorm like this in Leith. Thailand - yes, Sri Lanka - yes, Singapore-yes, but never here

Amazing here, I almost thought there was a light show on Corstorphine Hill, I’ve never seen anything like it.

Seems to be easing now. Boooo.

Was amazing to watch for an hour or so. There's a block of flats opposite me which blocks what would be a perfect view of Arthur's Seat. That would have been spectacular.

Downside is the humidity. No sleeping for me tonight.

Looks like it was a smaller storm and it actually developed into a full on electrical storm over the Lothians which explains the duration and intensity. I noticed the air get noticeably warmer as it ramped up. What a great show and a reminder of how powerful mother nature is.

90 minutes after the storm started, it gets all quiet, then a massive thunderclap like a bomb going off.

Not in Balerno it’s not. Still going as strong with no sign of any let up. An impressive spectacle.

I vaguely remember a late summer storm in August '90 that lasted as long as this but the lightning was more impressive, tonight the sheet lightning has been more going across the clouds rather than forking down to the ground

Five minutes of thunder in the deepest Borders. Living in the valley we watched the conditions pass by on their way to the metropolis that is Edinburgh

Rain and lightning back. This has to be a months worth of rain in one evening.

Whatever you guys were experiencing earlier appears to have travelled along the M9 to the Forth Valley area.

Constant thunder and Sky losing signal every 30 seconds or so.

Was in Indigo Yard tonight and everyone had to leave because rain started gushing in through the ceiling - when buildings in Edinburgh can't cope with the rain things must be bad.

To start with it seemed to be happening over in Fife so we had a good time pointing and laughing at their discomfort.
Then we got it. That'll teach us to mock our fellow Scots!

Could do with some over here. Normally August is the thunder season here, the humidity and air pressure is unbearable for a peely wally Scotsman and a good thunderstorm normally clears the air. I've moved my home office into the caravan and the aircon is on full blast. Think yourselves lucky.

My home internet has been down since what seemed like a lightning strike in our street at roughly 11pm. Anyone else having problems getting online?

Doesn’t look like much work will be getting done today

I was working all through it in my taxi. Was very scary at times. Flooding all over the city. Noticed some cars stuck under the bridge at Cameron Toll.

Worst storm I can remember in my life.

I'm with BT, and not had a problem. Short power cut yesterday about 5pm the hub reset itself. I wonder if there is a difference between fibre and cable when it comes to the outage.

I only know because it was mentioned on a work call this morning that users were having issues connecting in. BT, plusnet and EE were mentioned. It wasnt mentioned if it was fibre or ADSL. Suspect theres some heavily flooded exchanges!
I'm on sky and virgin so havent noticed any issue (fibre)

My 4G with O2 is affected, seems like there's been damage to a phone mast in my area which is causing this. I've put my phone onto wifi, which is with Sky, and it's fine.

Is that water from the Tay at Perth, historically a flood hotspot

It's about a mile upstream from where it joins the Tay beside perth prison.

I've just spoken to an Openreach engineer and the reason I have connection while others round about is because I have full fibre and the copper lines are the ones affected. 😁

Looking east from Corstorphine there seemed to be an eerie glow on the other side of the Hill but I see no mention of a serious fire. The Fire Brigade received about 500 calls but nothing specific.

There was a similar glow the night before, think the storm lightning made it look even brighter, definitely some form of lighting causing it the night before.

Absolutely mental scenes last night. I went for a run after the match and saw a few cracks of lightening over the Ochils and Fife, I was in bed by 10 and the thunder starts up.

The wee one was woken by it and was terrified from 10:30 till about 3 when she finally settled. Some incredible lightening and thunder that was so loud the windows in the house vibrated.

The rain was absolutely phenomenal too.

I’ve looked online and apparently it can happen if the flue hasn’t been fitted correctly so I’m going to have to get it looked at. It’s never happened before last night so the boiler has been switched off since!

A 130 year old property I'm dealing with had a flooded basement for the 1st time in memory about 10 years ago, all fixed and put down to a once in a 100 year event, happened again last year so the council rebuilt all the drains, happened again the other night :- /

Just spoke to an ex colleague at the hospital and they are considering some kind of lockdown until the storm passes. Thankfully the homeless here are still being looked after in accomodation since the lockdown. Massive respect to the Cambridge Council.
