Many Americans will typically use the main stock market indices as their gauge of economic performance. By most measures the US economy has had a a terrible year but stimulus cheques and significant quantitative easing by the Fed have kept the markets ticking back up since the March lows giving the impression Trump has rescued the economy.

Rick Santorum's face as they turned to him to see what he had to say, to possibly defend the indefensible, and he just couldn't.

The problem is, it is very difficult to avoid being dragged down to his level.

He was / is the president of the USA and the office, if not the person, commands respect.

Whilst he was in position and acting like a twat, it is hard to know whether or not to descent to that level - hugely tempting - or to rise above it.

I have great sympathy for anyone with integrity trying to do a job in the vicinity of Trump as president - that might be the media, that might be the military, that might be a medical advisor on health policy etc etc etc. It was a no win situation for many of them, and hopefully enough have survived with sufficient dignity to be able to get another shot around a more credible character.

Absolutely. Shares in Atlanta TV stations will have risen sharply over the last couple of days. And I’m pretty sure the Biden campaign still have a lot of cash in the bank to spend as well.
Having money to spend though won’t bring out the MAGA brigade unless Trump gets involved and he doesn’t strike me as the type to do something for someone else unless there is a coin in it for him.

I actually think that his handling of the Covid Pandemic has been the deciding factor to a lot of people.

He may have been able to use some of his business tactics of threats, bluff and bluster up until then but this was one situation where a calm, logical mind was required, and he fell way short.


Maybe his successor will introduce a working national system of healthcare for the less fortunate, a safety net of decent unemployment benefits for the millions losing their jobs, a more equal society where the wealth gap is not so hideously large and force the mega rich to actually pay their taxes....

Trump is claiming that any votes which arrived in Pennsylvania after Election Day shouldn’t be counted. This has already been challenged in court and as long as the ballots are postmarked Nov 3rd they are legal. However Pennsylvania, anticipating further challenges have segregated any ballots received after the 3rd and are yet to count them. That means that even if Trump was successful in getting those ballots excluded via the courts, Biden still has a healthy lead in the state.

I think it’s all down to the individual states legislature. These things are normal, it’s just that usually the losing candidate has taken the defeats with a bit of grace and conceded.

In Pennsylvania Republicans refused to allow counting of the postal votes until after election day. A cynic might say it was part of a Republican plot for Trump to build up a lead from election day votes (mostly Republican) and then cry foul when his lead disappeared with the postal votes (mostly Democratic).
