Does anyone know of any off license that sells bottles of Miller Genuine Draft.

Me and my mate have been doing a world of beers at the weekends. Different beers from different countries. Last weekend we were talking about MGD and we can’t get it anywhere.

Morrisons sell it in cases.

Been into a couple up here and they don’t seem to sell it. Are you still in Liverpool?

It used to be everywhere but you hardly see it now.

I always remember it having a weird consistency, it seemed almost thick and sticky.

Miller is probably my favourite bottled lager, which is weird as I find pints of the stuff repulsive, twist off cap is a bonus too

Looks like from what I've read it might be discontinued in the UK

Miller on draught was brewed under license by S&N for years. It was basically McEwans Lager with a fancy badge on it.

I think that's long gone as well. I always find it odd how people are so willing to pay extra for 'foreign' lager in the UK. Kronebourg is brewed in Tadcaster, Coors in Burton, Stella near Luton etc etc. It's paying extra for something that comes from the same brewery as the stuff the same people are turning their nose up at.

You could pretty much say that about a lot of favourite brands of food against own label stuff, lots of which is produced in same factories. Brand is King!

Regular visitor to Czech Republic or at least was until this year, hopefully back soon. Here I had moved away from lager to IPA and even then shifted pretty much towards wine. In Prague or the likes, I wouldn’t hesitate to drink their beers, they invented pilsner and it is delicious stuff, especially tank beer.

Not to decry their wine though -the Moravian region produces some wonderful varieties of Riesling. And bar staff there genuinely seem to appreciate it when you go with a Czech wine rather than a French, Italian or German.

As for Miller I used to enjoy the bottled version maybe twenty years ago, I thought it was decent. And it was almost always on offer in an off-licence or supermarket. But shifted away from lager over the years and now can’t touch it unless it is a good-quality pilsner.

MGD is made primarily in the Czech Republic now under the Pilsner Urquell brand but still part of the Molson Coors brand, possibly hard to find due to Covid19 restrictions on import.

Morrisons definitely sell cases of it. 330ml twist top bottles. Asda may sell it but in 4 or 6 packs.

Since the change in brewery it is a really tasty brew.

It certainly wasn't that. MGD was the premium brand, and normally tankered in to Fountain Brewery for packaging. McEwans was brewed on site and at 3.6%abv was like dishwater to MGD.

I agree, Tennents for me in 90% of pubs but I don't particularly like tins of tennents and bottles aren't too easy to come by which is rotten as a pint bottle of tennents is tremendous but only ever really seen them in the Hibs club

Used to love cans of Miller Lite back in the 80s I think. Bottles of Miller were always an acquired taste, I hated the stuff but some guys I knew loved it.

A good draught pint of Tennents is hugely underrated imo. When I managed a bar I was always amazed how many people from the big beer drinking countries like Germany and Czechia were impressed by it. Asda quite often have bottled Tennents but it's the premium version, which has had multiple names over the years, rather than the standard.

On the point of branding I remember being at a whisky tasting years ago. Two of the tastings were of whisky oaked beers. Everyone was unanimously agreed the second was far better than the first. The host then revealed the 1st beer we had tasted was Innis & Gunn and the 2nd was from Tennents. It was quite amusing watching people desperately trying to reverse their positions.

Imported beer used to be quite a thing back in the day but most of it ended up being brewed in Burton on Trent under license and is utter **** as a consequence. Rolling Rock from the US was great but the stuff from the UK is terrible.

Gilded Balloon was a good place to go. We never quite got past Moosehead when we were going through their list!!

I fell for that one too when I bought Moretti the other day.

What a swizz these imposters are. They leave me with a rage like no other.

Not sure that's much help though.

Just checked mate, Morrisons at the Gyle don’t have any, empty space on the shelving where it normally sits.

Absolutely relevant. I bought San Miguel Fresco after the game on the 21st. You simply don’t forget these things.

I know a few German guys and they can't get enough pints of Tennents and cans of McEwan's Export whenever they're over here. I suppose its a bit like Tennents Super being a classy tipple in Italy.

When I was across with my French workmates a few years ago, some of them were daft on Tennents. They thought it was called "T" because of the fonts & glasses and even managed to get served 3 or 4 cups of tea in one pub where the barman took their order literally.

I remember being amused when I was in Italy about10+ years ago and Tennents Super was being sold in fancy bars as a top of the range designer beer. I think it is also served in the San Siro (the Milan one, not the Leith one).

A few bars in Barcelona sell it in bottles as well. I remember explaining to someone that in Scotland it was anything but a classy drink and they thought I was winding them up.

Haven’t checked whether it’s actually brewed in Belgium but a pint of Heverlee is the only lager I drink in my local. If there is none of that I will drink Guinness or Best. Never really took to Tennents, will maybe need to try again.

MGD reminds me of my early days of going out to pubs and clubs, it seemed to be the bottled beer of choice. Miller Pilsner in cans was popular at parties.

Heverlee remains one of the few lagers that is genuinely imported these days. And you can tell...

All other mainstream lagers (Peroni, San Miguel, Carlsberg, Heineken, Moretti, Asahi, Tiger etc etc) are brewed in the UK 'under license' and they're pretty damned indiscernible. Which is a shame, because when they were originally imported, they were far superior!

There is an odd exception. Sainsbury’s Czech Pilsner is brewed in Prague by Staropramen, and although imported is cheaper than the UK brewed Staropramen.

And now I’ll never be able to get any because I’ve given away a secret. Curses!

Not had it for years - most memorable time was in Eros at Christmas (Eve I think) and I bought my round of 3 - the lassie goes “£2.10 please” and I said “I wanted 3”, she said “aye it’s 70p a bottle”. “I’ll have 9 please”.

Don’t know if you can get it anymore though.

I remember being in the Goth in Cowdenbeath before a SC tie (the Griffiths GIRUY gesture game). Had the girlfriend with me and ordered a pint of lager and a vodka and coke at the bar. A vodka and coke was presented to me and lady behind the bar said '£2.65 son'. 'I wanted a pint as well'. 'Aye, it' s coming £1.55 yer pint, £1 yer vodka and 10p for the dash'. When they scored after about 40 seconds I was tempted to head back to the pub.

Was it Establishment that used to have 50p Thursdays? I'm sure they used to serve quadruple measures.

Aye, establishment had 50p vodkas, as did stereo for a while. Then as soon as establishment shut, stereo doubled their prices. The bandits.
