Strange one because he would've walked into our team at that time.

And then he went and signed for St Johnstone who offered him a better deal. Think that was at the height of Petrie's "overly-frugal" transfer policy, which was even more grating that summer as it coincided with one of Hearts' bigger spending sprees.

That gave me the fear, shouted at Hibs.net everytime someone mentioned him at East Mains, "no, no ,no no ****in' no, no, **** off". These used to be and could have been guys are the worst, Pennant, Islam Feruz etc. Rangers signed lots of them, players that the fans knew were finished, ex Arsenal centre back Senderos etc etc.
If you sign them the dunces buzzer from Qi sounds loudly, donkey ears appear etc.

Anyone remember the big beast of a centreback that played in a friendly away to Berwick maybe closer to 10 years ago? He was a character and a half, ordering everyone around, VERY vocal, trying to go on 50 yard mazy runs and get on free kicks. His enthusiasm to win a deal was commendable but his ability didn’t match that enthusiasm.

Yeah. I recall his trial game was a reserve game, which coincided with Alex McLeish becoming boss, so there was a decent size crowd at the game.

There had been a bit of buzz about Testimitanu, but he was nothing special and wasn’t offered a deal.

This myth has been well and truly outed as nonsense.

The fee required was circa 350k (not 50k) and we did enquire . But by that time Platt was already sought after in England and is on record that he had no intention of heading to Hibs as clubs like Villa etc were already making approaches ..

williamson wanted to sign him, player felt he had been promised a deal but his demands were viewed as excessive and Petrie wouldn’t support them. Player lowered by 10% but was still too rich for us...Player was left feeling aggrieved. Complained about us...did well at United iirc...

You are correct. Another one around that time was a German called Thorsten Schmugge. Supposedly didn’t want to sign permanently as it would’ve meant his dog would’ve had to go into quarantine. 🐶
