Anyone have any recommendations? I've spoken to FirstMortgages and to be honest they weren't very helpful.

Also with the gov schemes, was curious about the first home fund in particular, as I've yet to save up a a decent deposit. Could the government grant be solely used as a deposit? Or do you need 5% regardless?

Technically, the deposit contribution depends on the lender, but the bottom line is you'll need to provide a minimum of 5% yourself.

Try Trussle online. I used them, was all very easy and free.

I used mortgage advice bureau - they were free but perhaps only for first time buyers.

They got the job done but there was a real push to sell me various insurances afterwards that was a bit annoying and I didn't particularly like the person I was dealing with at that point.
