Below is what Roy Keane said about David de Gea a month ago:

Roy Keane didn't hold back in his opinion of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea. Following De Gea's first half performance against Tottenham, Keane said he was 'fed up' with the Spaniard, and said he was 'the most overrated goalkeeper'. The former Man Utd midfielder even said De Gea should not be allowed back on the team bus, and suggested he'd struggle to keep his cool if he was in the dressing room at half time!

Wonder what he's saying now after another de Gea mistake. Something is not right when a very good goalie is making such basic errors. I think his days at Man U are numbered.

He looked way out of his depth at the start of his time there then he looked world class for a while.

Goalkeepers are funny, aren't they? Jim Leighton had a similar dip where he went from being a top player to a hesitant dither, before finding his confidence again with us and proving himself to be a top player again.

Confidence could be shot, without any apparent injuries, physically he’s presumably still as capable. Might benefit from some time with a sports psychologist perhaps?

Maybe a spell at hibs is what he needs.

De Gea is too expensive to have as a sub, they should get shot of him (if they can) and bring back Henderson for next season.

Reputation, and how good you used to be, really shouldn't come into it.

He was excellent for a few seasons, but his drop in form has been gargantuan.

Henderson is the better keeper right now, yet there's still talk that they'll send him out on loan again. Strange one.

De Gea is so clearly a player who is hugely affected by his confidence levels so it'll take some very clever management to get him out of this spiral.

Think he needs the competition from Henderson
Romario good goal keeper but happy I’m his bit role at OT . Very similar years ago with Raymond van der gowe

Should have sold him to Madrid when they had the chance.

He was in top form then, one of the very best in the world. Don't think anyone could've seen such a big decline coming.

He should maybe go to Hearts. They have a great record of developing Man United keepers

Joe Hart another one. Looked great for a few seasons and was absolutely brilliant season they won the Prem, but spectacular fall from grace during what should be prime of his career.

Don't think De Gea has been the same since the last World Cup.

He’s still got 4 years left on his current deal, that’s over £70m in wages alone. No team will come in for him on current form and at that cost. The best thing Man U could do is get a new GK coach and psychologist and get him in working on the basics until after all the other players have gone home. It’s not like he hasn’t shown how good he is previously.

Some of the pitchfork punditry has been shocking though, the Neville bros in particular.

Think his heads gone and needs a change of scene.

The Spanish fans turning on him seems to have impacted his confidence big time.

However a lot of the mistakes aren't as a result of indecision or hesitancy, which is usually what happens when a keepers confidence is the problem, they are just basics. The goal he conceded away to Watford and the 2nd goal last night are almost inexplicable. Had he dived last night and let the ball slip underneath him you could say he's been slow getting down or whatever. However that was just bizarre, he gets down but his technique is all over the place and his hands just collapse on him.

Alex Ferguson done the right thing by removing him from the firing line early in his time at United and maybe it's time for Solksjaer to do the same. You can see that people are waiting to pounce now. The 3rd goal last night is a prime example. Never the keepers fault in a million years but 3 pundits all queuing up to blame him and protect golden boy MacGuire.

I'm a bit wary of the hype and expectation around Henderson as well. He looks the part but so did Ben Foster in his loan spells away from Man Utd. When he came back and started he looked really nervy and in the end has played his best football in a less pressurised environment. If Henderson came back and displaced De Gea the media would be all over the 1st mistake he made.

Henderson is also a traditional boot it up the park distribution guy, very good at it too, does what all the pundits demanded up till about 5 years ago until build up from the back and sweeper keepers became in vogue. Depends if that’s how Man Utd (and England) want to play?
