I have the S8 at the moment, which after I retired thought would be a phone for life. But I can't help myself, I'm a gismomaniac and I need something new and shiny.

Has anyone got the S10+, S20+ or even the Ultra that they'd like to tell me about?

To be honest the S8 fulfils all my needs but I liked the look and feel of the S10+ and then thought for a couple of hundred extra quid I could get the S20+ then thought what the hell go the whole hog and get the Ultra - that will be a phone for life lol.

I've had the S9 for last 2 years but prefer a larger handset so I've been looking at the s20 plus. Ultra does look amazing but prices are mental!

These things have built in obsolescence so you won't really get more than about three years out of whatever phone you get. Whether that's due to battery reaching end of life (prob £70 to replace) or screen suffering screen burn (£200 I guess for a large screen model) or just generally starting to run slow through android updates etc. You can spin them out for longer but realistically people who buy premium phones aren't going to want to keep them for that length of time! If you're prepared to have less than perfect performance and screen two years from now why not just accept it now too and get an A50 or whatever?

I've always had Android. Swore by it for years. However, I'm seriously tempted to switch to Apple and for one reason only. The camera. I've loved every Android phone I've had (HTC, then a selection of Samsungs and then LG phones)... all of them great. I'm not a big fan of Apple, mostly because of the restrictions within the product, however, no other brand of phone has a camera quite as good as an Apple.

I've similarly always been Android and don't fancy the change overly. I love the camera on the Huawei but going forward they won't have any of the Google apps which puts me off getting the latest ones.

Is the apple camera then much better than the S20's?

Hi folks, thanks for all your thoughts and advice.

Between that and published reviews I have decided and my new phone will be delivered on Tuesday I hope!

Like a moth to a bright shiny light in the end resistance was futile I've gone for the Ultra!!!!!!

On the point of cameras. Many of the earlier reviews moaned about the software not being up to the job. However there was an early update and while the other S20s have cameras to compete with the any other high end phone the Ultras photo and video capabilities knock the socks of anything that's out there [at the moment].

Counting down to Tuesday :-)

Nice. :aok:

Always enjoyable to play around with a new phone/camera.

For the first time in years I've not got a new phone when my contract expired. I just changed to a SIM only deal and keeping my old one for a while.

I did that for about a year when my S6 contract expired and continued when I bought the S8. It's the way to go if you can afford the initial outlay.

I'll disagree. My work phones were always iPhones and my own phones android. There is not much difference in cameras from my experience.

When comparing you have to compare like for like. I.e a £1000 iPhone with a £1000 Samsung etc.

Not saying you are but from experience people like to compare flagship Apple devices with older kit or cheaper kit. "Apple is great my MacBook Pro at £1300 is much better than my 6 year old Toshiba. Windows are crap" type thing.

PS a refurbished two hundred quid DSLR or even a bridge camera likely to piss over both android and iPhones if it's photography you're after ;)

I've got a Canon DSLR myself and my daughter's Apple iPhone 11 camera is breathtakingly brilliant when compared to the size and clunckiness of a DSLR. It certainly blows my LG phone camera out of the water.

Ultra does look amazing but prices are mental!I was in the same boat after my 3 year old s8 needed replacing. Just couldn't justify the price for s20 or note 10+ but I noticed the s10 5g, which is £1100 on samsung website was on laptops direct for £650. Took a punt on it and its a cracking phone, maybe just a wee bit big at 6.7" but thats the only complaint I've had so far.
They still have them on appliances direct at that price.

I had Samsung’s for years, I always went for the note as I liked a bigger phone. A few years ago I switched to Apple and I can’t believe I waited so long. I have an iPad and a XS plus and the operating system is so much smoother and user friendly. The problem with Apple is that it’s a closed shop, it’s overly expensive and you can’t add to the memory.
