Does anyone know for sure either way if the new boys in will be cup tied or not for the semi final?

You wouldn’t think it would be carried overly surely

I’ve read so many different things. Think it makes a bit of a mockery of the competition to be honest.

If players end up cup tied, imagine the side we’d have to put our in the semi final!

They are not cup tied. The rules have been wavered for the semi and the final to allow players to play for two different clubs in the competition

I’ve not seen anything from the sfa to say the rules have been changed, so have to assume the cup tied rule stands as per usual until confirmed otherwise.

All new players have to be allowed to play in the semi final, surely?

There’s been no official announcement but it’s fairly obvious that it will happen. They’ll probably announce it when they give us dates for the games

Not yet they haven't.

Not yet they haven't. If you look at the Daily Records report on Craig Gordon joining Hearts they talk about it there because he himself was worried he was going to be cup tied but it turns out he wont be

That was because he hadn’t featured for Celtic and was only a sub

That's what I've been led to believe

This is a funny one - Craig Gordon could conceivably save the penalty that stops the quadruple treble but would likely be entitled to a medal either way?

How?

I'm pretty sure it's only those who are stripped for the final receive a medal. I don't think you receive one for playing in the earlier rounds.

That could be right - not sure if playing in an earlier round gets you a medal now though.

If the cup tied rule is binned we could be on the end of a defeat caused by say, Marciano saving a penalty for Celtic.

That’s the next court case we’ll be following on zoom.

Craig Gordon will be a semi-finalist - he won't be in the final - no medals for that.

The rule must be waived, you could end up barely having a team to put out, if you’d had a big clear out

Guaranteed hearts will be campaigning for the rule to remain as I’m guessing all our new guys would be cup tied.

That was because he hadn’t featured for Celtic and was only a sub It was because the SFA have suspended the eligibility rules that only allows a player to play for one club in the competition.

The rule must be waived, you could end up barely having a team to put out, if you’d had a big clear out of out of contract players left.

Guaranteed hearts will be campaigning for the rule to remain as I’m guessing all our new guys would be cup tied.

It should be waived but a condition you can’t have played for a team currently in the competition.

Decision should be made soon so it’s not viewed as being done to favour any team in particular.

Hearts will sue.

Only if they are forced to play their "Premiership level" players................

You could technically remove all players that’s contributed to your cup run. So your only option would be throw in the youngsters. That’s not right.

Due to circumstances common sense should prevail and all new signings should be free to play.

Makes sense. You can’t have a player playing for their new team vs their old team in the semi or final.

Not doubting you, but there's nothing on the SFA website about it.

Can you recall where you read it?

There's a paragraph here about it.

https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hearts/craig-gordon-eligible-hearts-hibs-scottish-cup-semi-final-2898744

'The Scottish Football Association suspended some eligibility rules for cup ties after the 2019/20 Scottish Cup semi-finals and final were postponed due to the coronavirus shutdown.

One of those was the rule stating a player can only play for one club in the same knockout tournament.

So, even if Gordon had appeared for Celtic in an earlier round, he would still be able to take the field for Hearts in their remaining ties. It also means no other player in any team can be cup-tied for the remainder of the Scottish Cup.

The suspension of those rules only applies to the 2019/20 competition, which the SFA plan to complete later this year if possible'.

No it has to be all waived, unfair if one team has signed new players from teams still in it and they can’t play yet another team has signed new players from teams already knocked out that they played in the cup for.
