Good episode - great explanation of the facts of the process the SPFL have been following.

And the addition of the Our Tune section was great. :hilarious

On the development players getting a chance - a good player will always break into the team (look at Porteous). Some might appear lucky but the names listed (Thomson, Brown, Whittaker etc) would’ve broken through whether we were bottom 6 or not, it wasn’t luck that they were first team players.

In my opinion there’s very few players who make it after age 21, there’s obviously notable exceptions but the vast majority will be playing first team football by 19.

Yeah, agreed - was just making the point that luck/circumstances play a part as well.

I finally got to hear the whole episode. Excellent. I have to admit that I had written a long post (by way of getting it off my chest) about the whole ending the season / court case / arbitration situation because, as I went to great lengths to point out, there has been no objective overview of the whole situation but I think you guys pretty much covered it. It was very well discussed. I think there was only one major point that I didn't hear discussed, which I personally think is very important, even if only in terms of hearing the counter argument; so here is the relevant part of my rant...

The overview that one has desperately sought in all of this might have considered the other possible narrative; that Hearts, realising their situation, very quickly determined to drag matters on for as long as possible and to ensure that clubs who had no real part in their complaint, such as Dundee United, were drawn into a situation which was contrived by Hearts in order to eventually break at least one club in the SPL (by which I include Dundee United) in order that they would then replace that team in the SPL, thus avoiding relegation and coincidentally weakening every other club.

Is this simply conspiracy nonsense or does it stand up to scrutiny? If no club has gone to the wall by the time the arbitration process is complete, which I predict Hearts will drag out as long as possible, then they will choose to find yet another legal process to exhaust. All for the good of Scottish football.

I would accept Hearts getting a token sum by way of compensation but I believe that there should be an absolute condition on any such compensation whereby, if any SPL club goes into administration or becomes bankrupt because of everything that has happened, that any vacant place cannot be given to Hearts.

This narrative does explain a lot of the "Why didn't they contact the other clubs?" or "Why didn't they put forward a proposal that had any chance of succeeding?" or "Why didn't they simply go to arbitration and avoid the costs and delays of the court proceedings?" or "Why did they feel it necessary to mention Dundee United and the other teams specifically in their submission?"

1) Imagine inventing a kid
2) Imagine inventing a kid who beats you at snakes and ladders
3) Imagine blaming your frequent snakes and ladders losses to your imaginary kid on their cheating in a letter to the Chief Executive of the Scottish Professional Football League

First time doing a long drive in the car for ages today so tuned in. Great show as ever, although the opening discussion about Craig ****ting himself was a bit surreal. :greengrin

Re the discussion on Collins, Weir, Hunter, Kane etc coming through, and then Brown, Thomson, Whittaker, Riordan. Think the common thread is that they were given an extended run. The former group by Pat Stanton (I think) and the latter by Williamson / Mowbray. We’ve not really given a group from the youth teams an extended chance between or since.

Totally agree, think the current situation should give some players an extended run, it’s up to them to take the chance.

The wee record-scratching-off at the end was Craig’s idea, thought it worked a treat!
