Sounds like a mass stabbing of some sort. The police federation have confirmed at least one officer has received serious injuries.

Disgusting, just seen a photo of a body lying on the stairs with blood everywhere, who thinks that’s ok to share publicly.

Well done to the police on their response. Although there has been fatalities it sounds like they got the situation under control as quick as they could.

Horrific scenes. In addition to the three people killed a police officer is among those stabbed.
Credit to the police for shooting the assailant before he could inflict any more mayhem.
It's alarming that this has occurred so soon after the Reading tragedy last weekend and it seems especially upsetting when it's so close to home.
I'm also just reading that the 'major incident' on Bournemouth beach yesterday was not, as I assumed, mass overcrowding, but three men being stabbed.

The initial incident was called due to overcrowding the 3 stabbings happened on the pier in the evening. I am not deminishing the attack it terrible https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/bournemouth-beach-three-stabbed-a4481346.html

Reading that this hotel was used by migrants and asylum seekers, so reason of attack could be more likely to be a crime rather than a terrorist attack

I hesitate to say 'hopefully' bearing in mind the tragic consequences of the attack but terrorism-related incidents have so far been very rare in Scotland and it would be reassuring if it remained that way.

I don't think we have enough information yet to decide whether this consistutes terrorism. However, if the victims were targeted due to their Assylum Seeker status I would think that consistutes terrorism.
Dreadful events whatever the motive. Incredibly sad. Thoughts are with everyone affected.

As an aside, where are people getting the three people dead figure from?

According to a witness quoted on Sky news two of the injured victims were male receptionists working at the hotel.

It could be, but I have a feeling (with no inside knowledge whatsoever) that's it's likely to have been one of the residents, perhaps with mental health issues and the stress of lockdown.
The guy that committed the attack in Reading was reported to have had mental health issues and it wouldn't be a surprise if this was a similar situation.

BBC 'eye witness' claiming the attacker was 'a man of African origin'.
I read a few things earlier on suggesting the attacker was of Brazilian origin (they even had a name and a photo), but I can no longer find them so assume it was bull****.
Horrific set of events regardless - I feared the worst when I got the BBC Breaking News update on my phone when it first happened - they described it as an ongoing incident with three already dead. Glad they were wrong.

The BBC reported the Brazilian rumour on the 6 o'clock news show but said they had seen it on social media and that it had since been deleted so who knows.

Yes I believe it is, quite remarkable really given the modern threats the U.K. faces, thankfully Scotland is relatively peaceful in that regard.

Second time the Police in Scotland hahaves had to use deadly force by way of discharge of a firearm - the first being Edward Griffiths in Glasgow in 1969 (Griffiths had been on a shooting spree across the city before being fatally shot himself).

I think the rule of thumb for reporting is if you can get something verified by two independent sources then you go with it. (I did work experience at The Scotsman many years ago, and that's what the reporters told me).

There's been quite a lot more info come out in the last couple of days about the background to this.
Apparently the Asylum Seekers had been living in various locations but were all moved into the hotel when the Coronavirus outbreak happened.
A lot of them will already have been under stress but the confined conditions of the hotel, with a number of them confined to their rooms for weeks on end, will have only made that worse.
The guy had apparently already threatened others and he finally cracked after an argument about the noise from a neighbouring room.
There's a lot more disturbing information come out and the company awarded a lucrative contract (Mears) to house those Asylum Seekers is also coming under fire, as they apparently lied about risk assessments being carried out before these people were moved to the hotel.

Think I saw the same report. Really sad situation. Never heard of Mears, but I'd be interested to know if they have any connections to people who own the hotels. There's something that just doesn't add up right. They took away their daily allowance if £5 odds, what for and where did it go? Something stinks.

The allowance was removed as the hotels are feeding them. The problem with this is that they are not used to a British diet and most cooked dishes they were familiar with.

I’ve seen this written a lot in the last few days but it only goes so far for me. The meals weren’t overly adventurous - no cullen skink or haggis - and seemed to be fairly generic staples like spaghetti Bologna seems, macaroni cheese etc.
I think if I had sough to claim asylum in the UK - no doubt having escaped some form of torture or threat in my homeland, travelling thousands of miles to reach these shores - then I’d just be happy to have bed and full board gratis rather than be complaining about the menu!

Was that all they had to live on before? If that's the case then it's hardly surprising people coming to this country could be tempted to boost their income by other means.

The guy interviewed said it was the fact that meal times had to be socially distanced. You had to wait over an hour at times and by the time you got served all the meat was gone.
I know what it feels like when you're late to a buffet and it's just crap stuff left. If that's all you had to look forward to, that could get you down quite easily. Could certainly lead to arguments about people being selfish/not sharing/disrespectful etc etc. Add multi faiths and ethnicities and I doubt it was quite as straightforward as your post implied.
Imagine not having any money to even go and get a paper or magazine to stave off the boredum, let alone Internet etc.
