I seem to remember a thread about this subject a while ago but for the life of me I can't find it.

I've gone from bang on 12 stone to 13 stone 6 lbs during lockdown, I've been drinking more, I've been eating rubbish, grazing on complete crap and generally being a complete lazy barsteward. I've got a rowing machine so I can hit that every so often but I do find it a bit boring if I'm doing it repetitively. 5 km twice a week is my limit.

I've never run before, I've always went out walking since I was very young so a long walk is fine. I feel I need to get myself running though as I get a wee bit older (37 years old) to keep the weight off. I've got running shorts/top/socks etc but I need a decent pair of shoes and I've no idea where to start, not wanting to spend a fortune incase it really doesn't agree with me so want to keep them under £100. Any recommendations for a good pair around that mark? Brands to avoid etc?

I started running during lockdown after a few years away from it.

I bought these for just under £60 and they've been great. Good support, they let a lot of air in around your feet when you're running and they significantly reduce any impact to the ankles/knees with comfortable gel soles.

They were recommended by Runners World as the 'budget shoe of the year', so I thought I'd try them. Very happy running in them, and I've been doing the couch to 5k (for similar reasons to you!).

Brooks Ghost are about the best neutral running shoe you can get. Will set you back about £120 though.

If it's weight loss you are aiming for then a couple of weeks of time restricted eating will be better than running. Cut down your eating to within a 6 hour period (between 12.30-6.30pm for example) and you'll easily drop a few pounds.

I think it's weight loss and staying fit I'm looking for, I live not far from the Lagoons at Musselburgh so I've got a fantastic ready-made running area right along the road, no excuse not to get into it. I'm intermittent fasting at the moment with a 5 hour feed window but early days, hopefully see some progress over the next few weeks in the weight coming down.

I love running barefoot but the shoes i have for road running are vivo barefoot primus lites. I’ve also got soft and firm ground trail runners from them too. Great quality, so light & comfy & i get to spread my toes :-)

For non barefoot I’d go Nike Pegasus...Had a couple of pairs, comfy as and last for ages.

Suspect it was discussed in the "isolation purchases" thread that you're thinking of

Pretty Boy is yer man. He gave me some tips for running shoes

Same here!!

I’ve always found Nike Vomeros good and if you go for ones that are a season or two back they are much cheaper than whatever’s current.

There’s a company doing graphene trainers that look cool!! Love to see a review.
