Bargain at £30,000 always recall him being called Nyjinsky I assume due to the speed of the great Horse 🐎 rather than the ballet dancer :greengrin

Was at a few of those games. Arthur was a very unassuming player deserving of Hibs legendary status.

Watching that I couldn't help but notice how small Jim Mcarthur is. Can't find any stats on his height but have we ever had a smaller goalkeeper?

Seen a lot of his matches for Hibs, the best winger I've seen in a Hibs strip and scored some great goals as well.

5 Mins 40 seconds, skinning Danny McGrain at Hampden I think. That did not happen very often. He was electric, imagine his worth in todays game, scored goals but created many more. Hugely underrated player.

I loved Arthur in a Hibs jersey. 100% in every game. Towards the end when he was at left back he got a bit of totally undeserved stick. Was like sproule on a motorcycle being towed by a Ferrari. Amazing servant to the club. I was lucky enough to have met him a number of times and he was a complete gentleman

In the next suburb up from mine - I’m in Browns Bay and he lives in Torbay. I would love to meet him for a beer or two one day 🙏

Jim was 5.10 . Budgie was 5.10.88 Andy McNeil 5.11 .Andy Goram 5.11
And for the Maxwell guess . He’s 6.1

What I remember about Arthur was second half going down the slope he would always have a shower at half time and come oot refreshed hair soaking wet ready to go to burn the full back off with the ‘after burners ‘kicking the ba past him and beating him for pace and sheer speed as Alan Gordon said : ‘ The flyer’

Open the gates!

Great servant to the club for many years and the reason I don't buy into the term Duncans being used to desribe yam fans.

5ft 10ins. An inch taller than Andy McNeil!

As you say pretty small for a keeper but I just checked and Andy Goram's also an inch short of six feet.

Arthur was a fabulous player and a fantastic person too. He coached our Hawkhill football team and was as down to earth and pleasant as anyone I’ve ever met.

Small but wide!

I scored against him at my primary school sports day penalty challenge at Inverleith back in the day, sent him the wrong way. Proud! Very proud. :agree:

Thanks for posting. Some brilliant footage of one of my favourite players. In particular great to see the 5th goal in the Dryburgh Cup Final and the goal at tynie where he skinned Dave Clunie.

Thanks for posting. Probably saw most of those goals. What a team the Tornadoes were. Should have won a lot more trophies, and in those days feared nobody. Brought back a lot of memories travelling to away games on The Carlton bus with Big Frank, Eddie Campbell, Jimmy Marriott etc.
Thanks again.

Was he from Breich?

Absolute legend for Hibs and the videos shows how good he was at his peak. Always looked very fit and was a better player than he sometimes was given credit for.

I wouldn't even know Breich existed if I hadn't heard it announced at the Waverley every day - "...Addiewell, Breich, Fauldhouse, Shotts..." :greengrin

He was living in Breich & worked as a chiropodist after retirement, not sure when the move to NZ took place.

Just noticed your post. I took Andy's height from here:

https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=42168

But I see he's also listed as being a couple of inches taller elsewhere. Personally I'd guess that soccerbase are right as he always looked wee for a keeper. Cup winning hero though.

Just watched it on youtube then noticed thread on here. What a player he was for us. Some speed he had and the occasional shout of open the gates behind the goals to let him out as he was going that fast. Was he the physio at Meadowbank before he went down under ? Good to hear he is still there and hopefully well . The number 11 of one of if not the best Hibs teams I have ever seen. Unfortunate that Celtic were so strong at the time the Tornados deserved to have more to show than just a League Cup and 2 Dryborough cups to there name. We had some brilliant European nights as well as given a few league teams a doing.
