I have food poisoning after eating a KFC on Saturday, yesterday in particular is the worst I have ever felt in all my life. I originally thought it was potentially covid but once the sickness and diarrhoea started that when I knew it was the KFC for definite.

Anyone else ever been ill as **** after a KFC?

Defo wont be eating another one in my life.

KFC is minging IMO. I think the reuse of the oil in deep frying is the risk factor.

I had food poisoning from a Savoy cabbage, where I hadn’t cleaned the outer leaves enough. I basically slept on the bathroom floor for 36 hours. I have had various bouts of illness but nothing ever close to that. Fever, hallucinations, really hard vomiting.

Actually, I had a few weekends like that in my twenties :greengrin

I've never had food poisoning from a KFC but a few years back I undercooked a roast chicken and got food poisoning from that. About 24 hours after eating it I had a bit of a fever and scratchy throat, thought I had a cold coming on and then the stomach cramps started......

It's the worst I have ever felt rivalled only by the flu. Absolutely floored for 5 days and still felt dodgy for about another 2 weeks. One of my mates at the time was a doctor and said he suspected it was caused by salmonella because my temperature was through the roof which is apparently typical of that.

Had a friend who worked in one and swore it was hoachin’

Mrs Colr got a dose of campylobacter Which is associated with uncooked chicken a few years back and was very, very ill. She’s veggie so it can only have been from cross-contamination.

I've never been so ill in my life, it was the last day there so had to travel home like that. Temperature was off the scale, near about 40, to the point I honestly thought I was a goner. Lost about a stone and a half in week though, which was needed [emoji16]

I got food poisoning off some undercooked chicken from a Chinese in Bristol when I was a student.

It was some steamed lemon chicken and I thought it was a bit “floppy”.

Next morning I woke up and puked for a good couple of hours.

Went back to bed and slept through to about 1800 where I got up and managed to go out to a gig. Quick recovery thank ****.

People far too often blame the last thing they ate before the symptoms started when the truth is onset times can be much longer and the last meal wasn’t the cause.

I have personally investigated several allegations of food poisoning during my time as a Safety Manager with Hilton and proved this to be the case.

One of the worst I have dealt with involved Scrombotoxin from Tuna fish, in that instance the onset times are pretty much immediate and a table of siix hotel guests for a hen weekend were floored almost instantly.

This is true. When I had my Savoy cabbage episode there was a big delay. It doesn’t happen straight away, generallly, it takes a good while to impact..

Yep.

I remember when working in the trade having to deal with a TripAdvisor review that stated a women had become ill a couple of hours after eating with us. The Chef was adamant it was impossible for her to have become ill that quickly and there was no way he had poisoned anyone.

I replied stating our case whilst remaining sympathetic but it ended up escalating. We had a convenient 'random' visit from the EHO and passed with flying colours. We later found out she had admitted to using unpasteurised cream she had bought from a street stall a couple of days before. That was the cause

I got food poisoning from Xmas dinner at the sister-in laws about 8 year ago. It was strange as out of 12 people I was the only one struck down. But, she had other people over on Boxing Day, eating leftovers, and about three of them were ill, but nobody was as bad as me.
After puking and diarrhea for 5 days I ended up at the doc's. He pinched the skin on my forearm and sent me straight to hospital. Four bags of intravenous fluids later, and some concerns about some enzyme level, I was kicked out after an overnight stay. Apparently they needed to prep for an expected New Years Eve influx of the injured, drunken masses that are common at this time, and I was deemed fit enough to manage at home. I was of work for about another 6 days.
The experience was hellish, unable to hold down even water. Pity the 10kg weight loss did not last much through January.

A few years back was on our Xmas night out, got ridiculously drunk and went home with a kebab pizza. Ate a few slices and in my drunken state put the box in the fridge when the pizza was still warm. Woke up about 4am on the couch, went back for a few more slices and went to bed. Woke up in the afternoon and finished it off. The hangover kicked it, suffered the rest of Saturday, and Sunday. It wasn't usual in my mid to late 20's for the 2 day hangovers then. Come Monday and still not feeling great I threw up at work about 4 times before lunch and had to go home, still thinking I was suffering the effects of the last Friday.....i remember stopping the car twice in the way home to spew. I had never been so Ill in my life. I couldn't keep even a mouthful not water down for about 5 days. I was signed off from work by the doctor the following Monday. At one point about 7 or 8 days in I was curled in a ball in tears, I couldn't even gamble on a fart.i hadn't really ate anything since but my other end was coming out now like a black tar look and consistency. After googling that, it turns out it's a sign of internal bleeding and I got really worried. I ended up going to the hospital down from the western, at the roundabout (canny mind the name) when my Mrs called NHS24. After a few eximantions, I was given the all clear to go home. No one told me a side affect of pepto-bismal was black tar like *****! I had drank about 3 bottles of the stuff. I was off work for 2 weeks, then was off for the Xmas shutdown and was still not right by Xmas day. I lost just over 2 stone.
The year before I had that norovirus thing which I thought was the worst feeling id had till I got food poisoning.

Jesus. I can relate a lot of that tbf mate, genuinely never felt so bad!! Thankfully I’ve not been sick since late afternoon and nothings came out the other end since just after tea time. Managed to find some anti sickness tabs I got from the doctor last year and got anti **** tablets as well so hopefully thats them taking effect. Just lucky this has came at a time where I’m furloughed and not at work so plenty time to recover.

100% making major changes to my diet when I get back to normal.

Again, can defo relate to most of this. I couldn't face turning the TV on for hours, my head and eyes (in behind the sockets) were too sore to attempt concentrating on a screen. Literally lay in my bed for hours twisting and turning till I perked up a bit later and put some Netflix on.

Sounds absolutely horrific. My biggest fear would be feeling like how I felt and needing to get in a car/plane/train etc. I genuinely don’t know if I could do it! When I get ill it proper hits me hard to the point where I can’t do anything!

If it’s a reputable restaurant then being closed for a long period of time should have absolutely no bearing on you suffering from food poisoning when they reopen. If you think that about a place you shouldn’t eat there anytime regardless.

Get on the phone ASAP in my opinion. My mum had Covid 19 and it was like an awful stomach bug for her, diarrhoea isn’t an uncommon symptom. My mum had no respiratory symptoms at all. Best get yourself checked out if possible. Hope you feel better soon mate.

Phone nhs tonight or your GP tomorrow. They may want you to do a “sample” to send to the lab for testing. Try and drink plain water or flat lucozade in small sips.

Update: phoned docs on Monday explained symptoms, got prescribed anti sickness tablets and dioralyte (disgusting). Doctor referred me to phone up NHS 24 afterwards and tell them my symptoms to see if they’d think I’d need tested for covid.

After being on the phone to nhs24 for around 25mins and speaking to a very nice lady, answering loads of questions so she could come up with an assumption/decision on what to do next, she thought that its something I that should get better from home but to isolate anyway. Told me to phone straight back if I get newer symptoms or symptoms worsen.

Yesterday, I woke up with no sickness anymore feeling a bit better compared to the other 2 days of absolute hell. But still quite icky and sore. I also had diarrhoea (still) once when I woke up. Took imodium (for the first time this illness) hours passed and I hadn’t been to the toilet but my stomach felt funny and sore at times. Thought there was a chance I was potentially getting over ut and the imodium had helped. Maybe got a bit a head of myself so I had some Heinz soup with a roll at lunch time i(ish) Then just after tea time I made some scrambled egg (probably not a good idea). A few hours passed until it got to midnight (ish), between then and about 4am I was up with the runs, maybe went 4/5 times? Started thinking here we go again. Took more imodium like what the packet says to do after going to the toilet, then drank my prescribed dioralyte (had to hold my nose) and went to bed about 5am.

Woke up randomly about 8/9am with the sorest stomach, confused because I was tired, literally had to run to the toilet because I 100% would have had an accident because it was not for staying in and letting me go back to sleep. Was probably the worst/sorest it had been since the sunday/monday. Went back to bed (without taking anything, I think anyway) woke up about 10am? Back on the toilet again, maybe again just after, but it was nowhere as bad as when I woke up previously. Took inodium, drank a dioralyte, went in a bath (felt sorry for myself) then showered afterwards. Stomach pain was very sore so decided to lie in my bed where the stomach pain continued, so I decided just to try sleep so I wasn’t in pain and give myself a rest. This was about 12/1pm. Slept till 5:30/6pm, soon as I woke up, needed to go to the toilet again. Its getting really boring and tiresome now and I never usually get the runs and when I do its not lasted as long as this.

So that’s where I am at right now. Tomorrow first thing I am going to phone my doctor if things havent changed because I can’t live like this anymore.

Anyone got any advice/tips from previous experiences? Would be much appreciated, thanks!

Probably about time they took a sample from you to determine if a food borne bacteria is causing this as you first thought, will give them some idea of what to treat then.

Are you sure it was food poisoning? It could have been Norovirus.

Most food poisoning bugs have an incubation period of 1-4 days.

And I wouldn’t rule out covid either as there is plenty of evidence of sickness and diarrhoea as the first and main symptom of this illness.

After suffering a long borne stomach infection, I was advised to eat quite a bit of natural yoghurt to reculture the gut.

Mr Grieves

Campy is a nasty one but pretty common, chicken is the usually the culprit. My work surveys supermarket chickens and sometimes they find it on swabs from the external packaging meaning you get cross contamination with fresh foods in shopping baskets/bags. Another possible source is private water supplies that have been contaminated with infected animal faeces.

Yeah pretty thirsty but it was weird because I would drink water because my body needed it but ended up bringing it back up (at the start). When I stopped sickness I was tanning like 3 litres of water a day. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone, hopefully you don’t have it!
