Greatest The Who Song

Continuing the recent trend. What’s everyone’s favourite The Who song?

The classics like My Generation, I Can’t Explain, 5:15, Who Are You, Pinball Wizard etc etc stand up against any other bands IMO.

Some of my favourites, although not necessarily their best songs, are The Seeker, Pictures Of Lily & Bargain.

I'm struggling to see past Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley.

From the earlier days I've always loved The Kids Are Alright and Pictures Of Lily although Substitute was probably my favourite at the time.

I Can't Explain, although it's pretty much stolen goods from the Kinks :wink:, I Can See for Miles and Pictures of Lily from the early days. Also love their version of Heatwave.

There are loads of excellent songs on Tommy, but the rather tinny studio versions don't compare with later live outputs when Daltry's singing has really matured - talking about I'm Free, Amazing Journey, Sparks and Sensation.

Just about anything on Who's Next is outstanding but sticking out on an album of stick-outs are Bargain, Love Ain't for the Keeping and The Song is Over. By the way, compare Daltry's singing on W'sN to Tommy. Night and day.

From Quodrophenia, The Real Me stands out, and that's saying something on that album.

The Who by Numbers is an album that's grown on me over the years. Worth a listen if you don't know it. Townshend's songwriting, on stuff like Imagine a Man and Dreaming from the Waist is as good as anything he ever did.

I think my first ever compilation album, was Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy. It was one of these Readers Digest purchased, where you got “tapes” for 75p, if you bought 3 full priced albums per year

Aas a child of the 60s, The Who were band number three on the best Brit bands list behind The Beatles and The Stones.

The Kinks were number four, closely followed by The Small Faces.

There were so many great Who songs. See Me, Feel Me is my favourite. The way it goes into Listening To You is one of the great moments in rock.

Talking of Tommy, I also like Acid Queen & Sally Simpson, but they’re better as part of the whole of the album than in their own right.

Side note, anybody heard The Hu? *****lian band I can best describe as a kind of lightweight Rammstein. I absolutely love them.

The Doors are my favourite goto music though.
Tracks like Roadhouse Blues and Who Scared you are fantastic.

I love The Who. I'd find it hard to choose one track over everything else. The singles are all pretty well known and Tommy, Who's Next and Quadrophenia being the best known. I love Who's next, Blue, Red and Gray one of many outstanding numbers, and The Who Sell Out. Proper pop art. Fantastic track near the end called Sunrise. Their biggest hit is on that one I can sew for miles. Shoulda got to No 1.
