Including and since the 1966 World Cup Final, there has been only two World Cup Finals that haven't featured a Bayern Munich player.

1970 and 1978.

My mate hit me with a variation of that one the other day and it had me stumped.

He also set me another - “Which football shirt sponsor is the most successful in terms of honours won by the teams it sponsors(ed)?”

That's a great stat to be fair. However Bayern are only the third most represented club in World Cup finals (all time).

Can anyone name the top two?

Barcelona and Real Madrid?

See I'd think that but it's got to be harder than that surely..?

That's why I am thinking Santos/Brazilian clubs are they've been to so many and a lot were before the trend of South Americans coming to europe.

Other than that, AC or Inter, maybe Juventus?

Yeah I suppose so. Brazil and Italy have been in so many. Didn't realise Spain have only been in one final.

:agree:

It's going to be someone ridiculous isn't it :faf:

Although I am leaning towards Juventus as one of the two, they always have a strong showing in Italy squads as well as other nationalities

At a guess, it would be whoever had most of the sponsorship that Liverpool had in the late seventies or early eighties. Crown Paint possibly?

Failing that it would be whoever sponsored Real Madrid in the glory years around the turn of the century, but can’t remember for sure.

Surprised at that list, numbers and places. Some make sense but I wouldn't have gone for fc koln or botafogo in the top ten. Ajax that low?

Great question though, thanks mate. I'm off to torture my friends with it!! :greengrin

Carling?

They sponsored both the OF for a good while so would have scooped up the majority of Scottish trophies in that time.

Sharp apparently sponsored Utd for 17 years until 1999, so that's a tons of premier leagues, few cups and a CL.

Although Botafogo aren't the biggest of Brazilian clubs, they do come from a wealthy and glamorous neighbourhood which allowed them to attract many top players in the swinging 60s.
Im sure Botafogo were easily the most represented side of the great Brazilian 1970 side, perhaps the best ever.

I've always though of Santos of being a football factory type club, churning out amazing kid after amazing kid.

These two clubs punch well above their weight in comparison to much bigger sides

Would never have thought of them ahead of Santos, Corinthians, Sao Paulo...

CR Smith might be in with a shout, they had both the OF for a while and that might nudge them past Sharp, although I think the latter is still more likely.

Apologies - forgot I posted that one last night after a few too many drinks then forgot all about it!

The correct answer is actually the first attempt made - Opel.

“Car manufacturers Opel have adorned the shirts of 45 trophy-winning teams:
* Bayern Munich (16) Six Bundesligas, two German Cups, four League Cups, DFB Super Cup, Champions League, Uefa Cup, Intercontinental Cup.
* Milan (nine) Three Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, two Supercoppas, one Champions League, two Uefa Super Cups.
* PSG (six) Two French Cups, two League Cups, Trophée des Champions, European Cup Winners’ Cup
* Sparta Prague (five) Four Czech league titles, one Czech Cup
* Bordeaux (four) Ligue 1 title, two French cups, Trophée des Champions
* Hapoel Haifa (two) Israeli league title, Toto Cup
* Feyenoord (two) Eredivisie title, Dutch Cup
* Standard Liège (one) Belgian Cup”

Re: Ajax, IIRC although they provided the core of the legendary 1974 team there were a decent number from Feyenoord and PSV as well. By 1978 the great Ajax team had broken up so I guess many of the national team players would be at other clubs.

Latterly they've produced loads of top players but most moved to richer clubs while relatively young.

When you think about it yeah, it makes sense. First off you'd think that they were high on the list, like Real etc.

Great question and it is pissing off my friends :greengrin

Here's a good question from my quiz last night.

Jose Altafini is a player older Hibs fans might remember.

But what did he have to do with the popular UK television coverage of Italian football in the early 1990s?

Complete guess but… was the 'GOLAZO' before and after the ad break in Football Italia taken from commentary of a goal he scored?
