What an awful week for musicians dieing. (Amomst thousands of others of course)
He genuinely changed music and some of his stuff is properly iconic -a word that gets used too liberally but in Little Richard’s case is perfectly justified.

Sad one this. His music had the most fantastic verve and energy.
Listen the the drum part on Keep a Knocking!!
I have edited my post to amend the appalling spelling

Absolutely, incredible to think he first recorded Tutti Frutti in 1955 although I'm ashamed to admit I thought he died in the 70s!

There is probably a whole thread’s worth of material about people we think are dead but are still actually alive.

Only Jerry Lee Lewis left now. Presley, Holly, Berry and now him all gone. Music I grew up with as a wee kid, but Buddy was the greatest IMO

There’s no Mick Jagger without Little Richard.

You forgot Cash! Perhaps the greatest (well for me anyway)

It's almost funny to think that standing up to play the piano was seen as almost too provocative. Given that 1950's America was still racially split, this guy broke down so many barriers for so many people. One of the pioneers who made music mean something other than filling in the background.

Sad news, but lived to a good age.
Would have loved to have been around in the 50s for the likes of him, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley etc. See a music scene that was truly groundbreaking. I enjoyed the indie boom of the 00s as it coincided with my late teens and early 20s, but can’t see how there is anything left in terms of groundbreaking. It’s just new takes on things that have already been done.
You forgot Cash! Perhaps the greatest (well for me anyway)Was going to mention Johnny Cash.
So much talent in a handful of people.
Buddy Holly's career only lasted 18 months or so and is still influential.

Everly Brothers are in there as well, such beautiful harmonies. Rivalled perhaps by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.
Honorable mentions to First Aid Kit who also excel in harmonies

Off topic, but have you seen First Aid Kit doing their tribute to Emmylou in her presence?

Wonderful tribute on 6 Music just now.
Tom Robinson was really emotional at the start.

That would bring a tear to a glass eye. They are fabulous.
I saw them here in Cambridge, when they played here, wasn't a dry eye in the house. Amazing harmonies. If you google them they have done lockdown videos on YouTube, well worth a watch. My apologies to Little Richard whose thread has been highjacked by First Aid Kit but they are worthy of their own thread.

I saw the Everleys in the playhouse back in the 80s when I stepped in to pick up a ticket for someone who couldn’t attend on the promise of free chips afterwards.
I didn’t expect much but they were absolutely brilliant.

There's a great Johnny Cash version at maybe San Quentin or Folsom when he forgets the words and makes it up until he cracks up laughing. I love this song, will probably dig out my Everley Brothers music. Timeless
