Jonnyboy's wonderful articles on our European triumphs got me thinking about some of the exceptional players who have turned out against Hibs in a competitive fixture over the years. All you have to do is name these 10 players, only 1 of whom refers to domestic, Scottish, competition. Good luck! 1st is easy to start you off! If you can name teams they represented also that's a bonus. Try & avoid Google!!

1. World Cup (WC) winning captain.
2. Scored in an infamous English WC loss.
3. Capped for 2 different countries & played against Hibs for 2 different teams.
4. Scored 5 goals in his 1st 2 appearances, both as a sub, for his current team.
5. World Cup winning manager
6. At one time the most expensive player in the world, he shares his name with a current world famous player.
7. He scored the winning goal in an iconic WC final.
8. He played (& scored) in the same WC finals as John Blackley. Scored against Hibs & won European Golden Boot/Shoe
9. Scored in a famous Wembley international win. His dad played, briefly, for Hibs in FF era.
10. At one time the leading scorer in WC finals. Still holds a WC scoring record.

Good luck!

4. Erling Braut Håland? (Molde)

10. Just Fontaine? (Rheims)

#4 correct. I'm pretty sure Fontaine hadn't joined Reims when we played them, Raymond Kopa was their star, but it's a great shout. Not answer I'm after though.

Both correct. I still remember watching the England W Germany game in the Minto on colour TV a big deal in 1970!. Saw the final there also!

10. Sandor Kocsis-played for Barcelona.

Good man. An unbelievable player. Scored 3 against us in Barcelona. Scored 11 goals in 5 WC games, the best average for anyone playing more than 1 game & he has the best international scoring average, over a goal a game, for anyone with over 40 caps.

Yes, Germany were beaten 8 3 by Hungary in the group stages of the 1954 WC & were 2-0 down after 8 mins in the final. They rallied to win 3 2 with 2 goals from Rahn. He & 2 others from that team played in our 1st European game when we beat Rot Weiss 4 0. Koscis was in the losing Hungarian team, their 1st loss for 4 years!

A tough quiz, well done all. Amazing to think all these wondrous players competed against the Hibs & with the exception of Molde we beat them all. Gordon McQueen was thrown in as an afterthought. I was thinking of Joe Baker & his goals against Barcelona. It reminded me that after Joe's 2nd debut, which everyone knows about, we went to St M & Joe was sent off for punching McQueen, after Joe had been kicked off the park for 85 minutes.
