Phone Repair

Sent an iphone away to get repaired. We've been unable to remove find my phone and now we have unrepaired phone sent back. Why do they need this removed before a smashed and not working phone can be looked at?

We used simply fix it who only needed passwords to switch the phone on, certainly never asked for app removal.
