Love the actual strip.

No sponsor again is absolute madness.

I would rather we never had a sponsor again (particularly those of the gambling mould) if it meant we could stick to our club’s charitable roots and promote good causes instead.

Fantastic from the club, I am very proud to be a Hibby today 👏

Love the actual strip.

No sponsor again is absolute madness.

I don’t know how you could begin to try and attract a sponsor for next season without knowing what sort of audience the sponsors would be appealing to.

What we’ve done Is brilliant imo, not just in a moral way, but in a commercial sense, this will outsell any strip we’ve ever sold by absolute miles. Hopefully that’ll go some way to making up the shortfall from a sponsor.

Love the actual strip.

No sponsor again is absolute madness.

There's a point made by Leeann at the foot of the article saying that NHS won't have to pay for it and that it was made possible on the back of some supporters - depending on how you interpret that statement, it reads to me like some people are funding it so commercially the club won't be out of pocket (similar to Hearts' Save the Children arrangement, I guess).

Love the actual strip.

No sponsor again is absolute madness.

Its the most challenging economic situation in a century, I doubt if any companies large or small will be willing to commit to sponsorship deals at this time.

Maybe Ron is covering the cost of a seasons lost shirt sponsorship revenues.

PS well done Hibs. I think this will be taken up by some other clubs down south but we were first out the blocks and the coverage will be very positive.

Love the actual strip.

No sponsor again is absolute madness.

Last year we didn't manage to find a sponsor, this year will be ten times harder. There’s still time to find something tho. When have we released our new kit this early before?
They also say we’ll ‘start the new season’ wearing it so still an option to add a proper sponsor later.

It could be probable that any sponsor discussions would have went south in the current scenario, so using the opportunity to thank the NHS is a great gesture

Love the actual strip.

No sponsor again is absolute madness.

Is it? If we sign quality like Doidge, Newall, Jackson, Allan and Bogdan with no sponsor, get to 2 semi finals and finish top 6 next season I'll be quite happy.

Hibs are not daft, we aren't just choosing to lose money. The 5 year plan set out by Ron Gordon isn't based around one desperate shirt sponsor that doesn't suit us.

Aside from how good a gesture it is it's worth considering that this strip along with the HSL kit will be among the best selling in our history.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of our deal with Macron but there may well be a 'bonus' from sales. As said above it reads as though 'someone' is covering at least part of the loss of income as well.

I second those sentiments

The decision to have the thank you message is in keeping with the ethos of this great institution we know as Hibernian Football Club

The NHS is the heart and soul of our Country

God bless all who are working in hospitals, hospices and care/nursing homes whilst sacrificing their lives to help and save others.

The NHS...and its staff... Our nations greatest asset

I understand what you are getting at, but I think the NHS styling is more the ‘global’ branding for the whole national health service rather than specifically regional.

There is no such thing as "the whole national health service" and no "global" NHS branding.. There are 4 different NHS entities - separately set up - for the four administrations of the UK. NHS Scotland was set up in 1947, one year before NHS England. NHS Scotland has always been a different entity from NHS England, even prior to devolution.

England and Scotland have two totally different health services both funded differently and Scotland's more exclusively public and England's public but with a little private input.

We are using England's logo not that it matters as the word "NHS" is enough but worth pointing out.

They also say we’ll ‘start the new season’ wearing it so still an option to add a proper sponsor later.

We’ve probably never launched it this early - but equally it’s probably never gone on sale so “late” in the summer either - always a June rather than July launch date IIRC. May well be down to supply chain but probably also a reminder, if one were needed, that we are unlikely to be seeing a new season starting in August.

WhileTheChief..
23-04-2020, 11:16 AM
There's a point made by Leeann at the foot of the article saying that NHS won't have to pay for it and that it was made possible on the back of some supporters - depending on how you interpret that statement, it reads to me like some people are funding it so commercially the club won't be out of pocket (similar to Hearts' Save the Children arrangement, I guess).

That's quite a leap no?

I read it simply that it's not costing the NHS anything...

“For the avoidance of any doubt, this initiative does not cost the public purse one penny. It has been helped enormously by a small group of supporters who supported us in the idea and we are grateful to them all.”

and that some supporters helped arrange it all.

You think these supporters clubbed together and donated a lump sum to Hibs? Brilliant if that's the case but I don't read it that way.

Either way, it's tremendous.

I was highly critical of them last year for failing to find a sponsor but agree fully with them this time.

My office Jambo has just told me that we only got in first because Budge is busy elsewhere and would have done it if she wasn't. I pointed out the difference between the two clubs was Budge is busy on a purely selfish mission whereas Hibs have done something community based, and selfless. Always proud to be Hibs but sometimes the club shows just how special it actually is

It was generally assumed that with the right sponsorship partner for Hibs just not being there last season the Community Foundation arrangement would be for a season and we were prepared to wait for the right fit rather than jump in with a less than satisfactory deal. Obviously the commercial climate has changed dramatically and finding the right partner was going to be troublesome, so this initiative for a further year is a fantastic gesture, and one that will see shirts flying off the shelves more than any of the past.

The publicity and goodwill towards the club could make finding that right sponsor a little easier and our club being one that some could be persuaded to do business with in the future.

I’ve not bought a shirt in years but will get this one.

Well done Hibs.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, this initiative does not cost the public purse one penny. It has been helped enormously by a small group of supporters who supported us in the idea and we are grateful to them all.”

Well done to Hibs, a magnificent gesture and one in keeping with our history of community.

I'm also reading the above quote as meaning there has been financial assistance from a group of Hibernian affiliated benefactors which will help the club mitigate the loss of sponsorship income.

The 90+2

ALong with the fact that LD has stated supporter donations made this possible I doubt we are losing out too much on what we could have possibly made from a sponsor. Saying that who has the cash to sponsor anyone at the moment??

Too true and very valid point. This we the NHS and us get publicity and keeps some kind of feel good in these grim grim times.

Fabulous stuff. Will raise a lot of money for NHS charities.

My partner works in the NHS and have had the pleasure of joining in some of their virtual social events on Zoom recently. Top people who are taking all of this in their stride despite the exhaustion, pressure and danger.

It's a shame that it's taken a global pandemic after a government systematically failing the NHS for a decade to make people realise how important it is for all of us.

I don't think it's that huge a leap, to be honest. I do know Hibs were set on having the right sponsorship next season and that they wanted to get true value from it, so to do a complete about turn without any financial help would be a surprise.

A few points about this.

1 ) Its a super gesture by Hibs which loads of clubs around the UK are without doubt thinking of doing as well, we may be the first, but rightly we wont be the last ... and I quite like the top too

2 ) I'm usually the first to moan if what's unique to Scotland gets confused with English or British styles ... but in this case I don't really care, its definitely the thought that counts.

3 ) This isn't just bandwagon jumping. Hibs have been engaged with the local NHS for a good few years now with physical and mental health wellbeing initiatives being run at and by the club in conjunction with the local NHS.

4 ) The Jambos quoted on here and his take on the sort of folk working for the NHS. He is absolutely right, they are just ordinary folk doing their job, nice folk, horrible folk, enthusiastic folk, lazy folk, clever folk, incompetent folk.

But that's the point he's entirely missed. What makes a hero isn't your Arnold Schwarzeneggers or Johns Waynes charging in with no fear, or no sense of fear .... Its the ordinary folk who do have worries, who do have fears, who perhaps at times are even genuinely terrified but still walk into an environment they know might end up endangering them or their families, maybe even fatally ..... that's what makes a TRUE hero and why the phrase being used for NHS staff, care workers and so many others isn't an exaggeration.

"The Serie B side launched a competition with the motto "give a kick to Covid-19" for young fans to design a jersey for the team.

The winner of that competition, six-year-old Luigi D'Agostino, designed a kit with a dolphin -- the club's symbol -- playing with a soccer ball in the waves of the sea next to a rainbow."

She lives just outside of Portsmouth and is now showing everyone the new strip. From what I imagine just from this reaction alone is that it will be very popular.

Only thing I would have done different is had a national competition to get a rainbow drawn and winning rainbow goes on the top. Kids would love the thought of their rainbow on the top. Papers could have ran with it and tv too. Imagine the free media cover just for this idea alone?

I'm not getting the comparisons to the relegation shirt. That shirt was solely green body, the same shade of green as a round collar and white sleeves. There was absolutely no additional detailing whatsoever.

The new shirt has a bottle green collar with an addional emerald green rise at the back, bottle green detailing at the point where sleeves and body meet and bottle green detailing at the bottom of the sleeves. It's the same in the sense that it's green with white sleeves but that's about it.

It’s basically the same deal as last year with the cost of the logo going towards the NHS rather than Hibernian Community Trust.

I also took it that they were thanking the supporters who suggested it rather than indicating that we suddenly had some mystery benefactors - I’m sure we all agree that we don’t want any of those. [emoji16]

NHSLothian £75.70

NHSFife £739 Plus of course

HM Revenue £1,881,068

Which is largely where the NHS gets its funding.

How much

£2454. Dirty cheating, poppy theiving, charity robbing, NHS robbing *******s. Get them down!!!
Sorry for the thread hijack but this just shows the vast difference between the two clubs. One is a community based, inclusive, club that understand it's place in the world. The other is a self absorbed, disgusting excuse for an organisation that doesn't yet understand why folk either dislike them or even worse for them just find them irrelevant
Anyway, once again well done Hibernian for this fabulous gesture

There's a point made by Leeann at the foot of the article saying that NHS won't have to pay for it and that it was made possible on the back of some supporters - depending on how you interpret that statement, it reads to me like some people are funding it so commercially the club won't be out of pocket (similar to Hearts' Save the Children arrangement, I guess).

Thats exactly how I read it Matty. Some wealthy fans plugging the gap that a commercial deal would have plugged. Fantastic gesture from the club and the individuals concerned. Love the top as well.

100%, you see how well other fundraisers have gone towards the NHS i.e captain tom, could well see the amount of tops sold for next season being a possible record? money to NHS money to us, win win

Now there is another marketing idea. Send one to Captain Tom for his 100th birthday. Hibees are you listening.

This epitomizes Hibs class, I don’t want to be seen to be indulging in petty point scoring here. If however, I was crass enough to go down that route I’d be moved to say how indicative it is of the house style of both Edinburgh clubs that we are doing this, while Hearts, who bumped the NHS in the Romanov era, are feverishly scrambling around trying to concoct sleazy deals to save their own skin.

Just as well all that nonsense is below me.

I think it should say “Scottish Key Workers” yes amazing job the NHS are doing as anyone else during this time, but the figures from today suggest only 27 people in Edinburgh need 24/7 round clock care not exactly bursting at the seems ( course this could change )What about our bus drivers etc tho there at serious risk right now not a mention for them

I take it they meant ITU care...? There's around 27 COVID-19 patients on the ward I work on alone, never mind anywhere else!

England and Scotland have two totally different health services both funded differently and Scotland's more exclusively public and England's public but with a little private input.

We are using England's logo not that it matters as the word "NHS" is enough but worth pointing out.

I was/am so proud of our club in doing this. It didn't occur to me that there are different logos for Scotland and England and didn't think it would matter. However, it has now been mentioned to me several times already, and from some NHS Scotland Hobbies, so obviously this is a bit of an issue.
If it is not late to change the logo to the Scottish one, then I would definitely be for changing it.

I don't see it.

It says "Thank you NHS" - that's not any of the 4 NHS logos, it's just a message.

3 ordered for myself and the 2 boys.

This could be the highest selling top of all time.

As an aside folks, all of last season kits are now on sale, and you can still pick up shirts from the last 2 seasons in the sale section as well as many other offerings.

I’d hate to be one of the staff going back when they open up again.

It’s neither and I’m a little disappointed that so many are picking up on this, I completely agree with you. Whether you’re a nurse in Dundee or a pharmacist in Doncaster then I’m hugely grateful for what they do.

Maybe we could put it in Comic Sans and please nobody.

I didn't either, but obviously some did see it and would have preferred it to be the Scottish logo.
It would still say the same thing, either way, so why not have the Scottish version?
