Anyone else see a couple of signed balls and a Hibs 3 Rangers 2 display in the background of Ian Blackfords study at home during Prime Ministers Questions today.

Brilliant.

Missed PMQs live but he’s just been on Reporting Scotland. Certainly showing to the country, even the world, where his football loyalties are!! Good on him.:greengrin

It’ll be interesting to see if he changes the memorabilia backdrop on future broadcasts.:aok:

Sources say it is a toss up between the Huge beach towel of SDG Celebrating his Cup Winning Goal or a life sized poster of Begbie wearing a Hibs top giving the Vikkies with “****** the Jambos - GGTTH” underneath.

I also hear Ian will be sporting a t-shirt procured in the 90s with Bart Simpson (wearing a Hibs shirt) urinating on a Hearts shirt.

LOL. Will he go that far?
In a rebellious way he’s stuck two fingers up to the establishment. MPs who were videoing in on Zoom were given strict instructions to ensure their backgrounds were not to be controversial. Of course, I don’t see his background stuff controversial but some might.

Sod ‘em. Once again. Nice one Ian!! GGTTH

According to Kickback we were only first because they turned down the chance. Even if true, I wouldn't be boasting about a backward decision.

His response to that was superb, something along the lines of the first to wear the green and white.

It isn't true there is a shock. Aberdeen were champions and invited but turned it down Hibs then took their place to be the first British team to play in Europe. As they say in a Few Good Men, "they can't handle the truth". :greengrin

The invites went out before the sesson ended so no one knew who the Champions would be. There were articles in the Daily Record at the time claiming Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen were all miffed at not being even told about the competition until it was announced that Hibs were to represent Scotland.

Nothing establishment about Royal High, not since the Ronnie Corbett days anyway! It has been a ‘regular’ school for decades and includes kids from Muirhouse and Clerry and was also the birthplace of the Hibs Monthly/Mass Hibsteria fanzine don’t you know! [emoji1184] Josh Campbell and Oli Shaw are among recent alumni to play for Hibs.

Story I was told back in the day was that Aberdeen didnt want to play under lights on a midweek night as they felt it would put them at a disadvantage. Dont know how accurate it was.

But Hibs (and Swan) were certainly the most pro-Euro and forward thinking club at that time.

Didn't realise that thought I read somewhere they had turned it down.Yes, mate there are articles from Aberdeen fans and others that claim as such with no evidence at all. You've probably read one of them, one was on a BBC website.

One I read claimed Harry Swan hijacked Aberdeens invite from EUFA at the SFA's offices and put Hibs name forward instead not realising that the competition was organised by the sports magazine L'Quipe not EUFA, invites were sent directly to clubs from them not to home associations and that EUFA didn't have much power back then - (they were the EFA at that time and at odds with FIFA.)

After some associations kicked up a stink about L'Quipe's involvement FIFA took over that 1st competition, re-sent the invites choosing Hibs again. So we were actually invited twice. The following season it was decided domestic Champions would be chosen to qualify.

Read any Hibs book on our appearances in Europe from 1945-55 to see why we were invited. Hibs were hugely popular at the time leading to that invite.

Dont know how accurate it was.Floodlights weren't an issue. People get mixed up with the "Floodlight League" which started the same season. Not every club invited to the first EC had floodlights and a lot of games kicked off at 3pm.

A couple of Huns trying to calm the rest of the horde down, but generally a pleasing pant wetting thread.

My mate is an Indy supporting, SNP voting Rangers season ticket holder.
Always a wee bit embarrassed with the general Rule Britannia Hun nonsense.
