OK, 5 questions today & 5 tomorrow covering 12 EPL teams. All you have to do is name the current EPL team(s) from the statement & the specific Hibs connection from the statement/question/answer. An easy one to get you started then some more thinking required! I should say all the answers are post war & only Q2 makes reference to an earlier period. Try to name both the team & the connection before answering.

1. This team has had 2 Scottish knights as Manager.

2. This team paid the 1st 5 figure transfer fee.

3. These 2 teams came out to the same theme music for over 50 years

4. This team returned to the Premiership this century for the 1st time in 33 years & immediately got relegated.

5. This team made their European Cup/Champions League debut 44 years late!

Good luck!!

1 Man Utd Matt Busby - played for Hibs. Alex Ferguson - brother Martin coached at Hibs.
2 Arsenal - first two teams to wear white sleeves?
3 No idea.
4 Fulham? - can't think of a connection.
5 Chelsea - Hibs played in EC when they knocked it back and thus became the first British side to play in European football - huzzah!

Bobby Moore

Number 4, Hibs signed George Best from Fulham?

Gloucester Hibs

3. Watford and Everton - ‘Z Cars’.... er, Dave Beaumont became a copper after leaving Hibs? 👀

Ok, #1 is obviously correct re Busby & Fergie.
#2 It is Arsenal but remember the connection is in the statement.
#3 It is Everton & Watford coming out to Z cars, written by Hibby Johnny Keating but i need a wee bit more than that.
#4 Fulham are not a current EPL team.
#5 Chelsea, Tomsk essentially has it correct. The FA did not allow Chelsea to participate so Hibs were only UK reps in 1st FA cup. Ironically Chelsea's eventual 1st entry into Champions League was not as champions!

So we still need the connection for #2, a little more for #3 & all of #4

I confess I had Liverpool for Q1 - managed by Bill Shankly whose brother managed Hibs and also by Kenny Dalglish whose son played for Hibs - just one flaw in my reasoning.

For Q4 I can only think of Blackpool and Huddersfield who kind of fit the bill, but Huddersfield stayed up for two seasons so that leaves Blackpool. No idea what the Hibs connection is though.

Edit: Hang on Brog - you didn't say anything about the club in Q4 being a current EPL team....

I reffed a game in the Kent league many years ago & Lawrie's boy was striker for the home team. We had a drink after the game then he took me to his home to meet Lawrie & i sat for hours looking at his scrap books! Great guy Lawrie!

Against Bournemouth, who were at least one league above Wrexham he was superb and when some guys near asked who he was they had never heard of him, needless to say. When I said he’d played for Scotland they were very surprised because he was so good.

Johnny also recorded Hibernian, Give Us A Goal/Turnbull's Tornadoes which reached #1 in the Leith charts!! Another 5 to follow.

All right, here's the final 5. Remember the clue is in the statement & all teams are current EPL. Find the specific Hibs connection, i've even told you it in #2! Just need the name.

1. One of England's best supported teams even though their last major trophy (non domestic) was over 50 years ago.

2. These 2 teams are fierce rivals even though they're over 40 miles apart. Despite the rivalry many players have played for both clubs including an ex Hibs internationalist.

3. Two left sided Scottish internationalists, born in the same Southern English town, played for this club in the 70's.

4. This team has won a Premiership but has never won the FA Cup. They played in the Tartan Final where 32% of the players, 75% of the goalscorers & 100% of the managers were Scottish.

5. This team has won 11 major domestic trophies in the last decade but they last played back to back FA cup finals in the 50's.

Good luck!

Ok,
#1 Correctly identified as Newcastle winning Fairs Cup in late 60s with Jim Scott in the team.
#2 I thought this was easiest, possibly because I have close family connections to both, but no one has it correct yet. A current top striker has played for both.
#3 Correctly identified as Villa, the players being Rioch & Cropley.
#4 Correctly identified as Leicester but no connection yet. It was decade or so before Bobby Smith
#5 Correctly identified as Man C & Bobby Johnstone. The record Bobby set was he was 1st player in 20th century, & possibly the last, to score in successive cup finals.

So everything needed for 2 & connection for 4.
