Thought I would create this thread as separate to the current thread. Although the current thread has lots of good info on it and I appreciate the contributions people make to it I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread that can maybe help people get through this with some positive related covid-19 news.
To start, I recommend for anyone struggling with the negativity coming from MSM to check out Prof. Karl Sikora on twitter. A lot of very well thought out and positive news on his twitter feed.

"On Newsnight in 2017, Sikora described the NHS as "the last bastion of communism"." (Sorry.)

Sorry to do this but ...

I think there's an element of telling people what they want to hear about the Prof's tweets.

Based on nothing more than having watched the death patterns from Covid 19 in Italy & Spain I predict we have today hit the peak in deaths in the UK.
Italy and Spain had 18 horrendous days of high death numbers before things began to improve and today was our 18th day of high death levels.
Hopefully our daily death numbers will now begin to fall and be firmly, in the still admittedly high, 600's by the end of next week.
Fingers crossed.

My Hibs daft cousin has been brought out of an induced coma at the Western General after 4 weeks. He had the virus but is free of it. He has lung and kidney damage and it will be a long road back but it looked like he wouldn’t get this far at points.

Heard today that his mate contacted Darren McGregor who gave my cousins wife and son, aged 13 and a big Hibby, a call. Darren was great and invited them to be his guest at a match when my cousin is able and football is back, Hibs class 🇳🇬💚

Golf courses reopen on Monday over here.
I was walking through Duddingston Golf Course today. The mower was out in the fairways. I’d imagine golf will be one of the first sporting pursuits allowed even if the 19th hole is shut.

Visited my club today. They have certain restrictions still in place:
Max flights of 2 people.
Social distancing must be adhered to at all times.
They have a marked waiting area for the next flight, you have to be at the waiting area no later than 7 minutes before tee-off.
You can only start your round on the 1st hole.
Cups in the holes are upturned.
Any putt less than a club length is a gimme.
No searching for balls.
The reception is also a one way system, one door in and one door out. The bar and restaurant are closed but they've set up a beer and drinks stand outside on the terrace with a grill for steaks and bratwurst. All tables on the terrace are about 7m apart and only every 2nd park space is accessible.
All sensible measures imo.

All very sensible. Was walking over Silverknowes golf course this morning. Looks in great condition. Greens need a bit of work.
But all of these rules could easily be adopted here.

From my upstairs windows I look down the length of a par 5 hole on my village's golf course. I've been pining to get out there for months. :greengrin

I put something relatively positive about a vaccine on the main coronavirus thread - wasn't sure if it was positive enough for inclusion on the positivity thread 😁

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but it made me laugh & greet at the same time.
One of my mates is an educator in a home for the mentally disabled here in Brittany. The lockdown is hard for them too as they look for ways to occupy everyone.

Remdesivir has been licensed in the States. Gilead are giving away 1.5 million vials. Seems to hasten recovery time, although not significantly reduce deaths.
Doctors here are injecting blood from survivors into critically ill people. If it works, the idea is that the antibodies built up in those who've beaten C19 will protect others from the virus.
Cautious good news on both fronts, but certainly positive rather than negative...

Taken from social bites social media channels. In amongst everything else it sounds like there could be a chance to erase homeless - that would be an incredible positive to take from this if managed...
During the Covid-19 pandemic almost every single person that was sleeping rough on Scotland's streets has now been given a place to stay - either in hotels or in emergency accommodation. This means that - for now - there is almost no one sleeping on our streets.
We now have an amazing opportunity to make a significant impact on rough sleeping in Scotland if we can work together to ensure these people are helped into long term accomodation with the support they need, after the lockdown. If people are discharged back to the street, it will be a big backwards step, and we can't let that happen.
We are delighted to share some great news that 250 flats have been made available by our partners the Wheatley Group to help make this transition happen for our most vulnerable people. These people will have the opportunity to access funded 'Housing First' support to
help them stay in their new homes, through money raised at our sleep out events alongside funding from The Scottish Government.
Let's work together to create a silver lining to the cloud of the pandemic, by taking a big step towards ending street homelessness in Scotland.

Funny I was just talking about this the other day. The last few weeks have shown that if there really is a will there is a way to tackle homelessness.
I've been dealing directly with a group who are working with the homeless accommodated in a hotel in Central Edinburgh. They are very confident they have people in a position in which help is not only available but also ready to be accepted. Sometimes the biggest issue they face is people on the streets are instinctively distrusting of authority and bureaucracy, often with good reason. Having the opportunity to work with them on a regular basis has been welcome.

That's good then. :agree:
Sounds like there's the beginning of a relationship there and with charities like social bite, Streetwork, and all the others hopefully there's people in the right places to make the most of this situation. :aok:

Re homeless;
I know one guy "reasonably" well that hangs around the city centre and pitches around the Waverley.
He's pretty much atypical in that he was caught in the gap between the various support group/partners. When you spoke to him, he was adamant his lifestyle was his choice. Regrettably, I've been guilty of repeating this when people discussed homelessness or rough sleeping.
Anyway, when lockdown happened, I'd see him now and then as I went to/left work. I'd stop, talk and help him out a little. Then, about 5/6 weeks ago he disappeared.
Turns out, that with the lack of people on the streets there was no passing trade and this "focused" his mind. I bumped in to him yesterday outside an NHS "access centre". He is registered with the council social care, NHS psych support and is currently in temporary lodgings. He looked a different person and as we parted he cheekily said he hoped he wouldn't see me again, I'm hoping that's because he won't be hanging about the Waverley at silly'o'clock in the morning!
