To cut them some slack they're complete fanny's for not reading the tide timetable correctly. I don't see much difference walking out to Cramond Island over walking further up the Almond to the waterfall for example.

Certainly shouldn't be grassed to their employers and lose there jobs over it.

And agree with the other posters. If it was me to save the ridneck i'd try wait it out and get across when the tide left again first thing.

So long as they're local to crammond I'm not sure what rules they've broken.

Unless the island is closed? It would seem reasonable to do so given the "risk" of being stuck there - but that's not been stated anywhere I can see.

I certainly don't see the rush to "name and shame" people.

Surely this is just another example of people failing to use common sense. Some people moan about the 'nanny state' and so on but it seems others (perhaps some of the same people) are happy to abdicate all personal responsibility if everything isn't spelled out for them. No one needs to walk to an island that is cut off by the tide for long spells. There is extensive areas around Cramond for locals to excercise that makes that a completely unnecessary activity and a potential waste of stretched resources.

The government should be right in the firing line when it comes to assessing what has seen this virus spread so readily in the UK. People who continue to have BBQs, meet in groups, walk to tidal islands etc etc are allowing the blame to be shifted.

HappyAsHellas

There are plenty of warning signs on all the approaches to Cramond island informing you of tide times and when it is safe to walk there. People get stranded there on a regular basis either because they are stupid or couldn't give a damn. With the maximum possible stranding being about 6 hours I'd just leave them unless children are part of the group.

Because they've broken the law and likely forced their rescuers to come into close contact with them at a time when that could have very serious consequences for the rescuers and their families.

But you are able to walk back, you just have to do it before the tide is back in.

They've been silly to get stuck out there, but no more so than people are whenever they do it. Unless they've done something else then they've not broken any of the rules and the clamour from people to name and shame them seems OTT.

They chose to exercise by undertaking an activity they weren't able to safely complete, at a time when everybody should be taking extra care.

They clearly breached the regulations otherwise they wouldn't have been fined by the police.

Anyone attempting to defend such behaviour is essentially giving licence to others to behave in the same way.

I regularly go out there to collect bait at low tide and it's surprising how many people you see walking over to the island as the tide is coming in. I have warned people of this yet they just continue on their outing not even thinking about the hassle they can cause. Lifeboats should be left for emergency situations, not for giving day trippers a lift back to avoid wet feet.

Based on my experiences over the past week, the biggest improvement they need to make is to get tougher on supermarkets.

About 95% of people are playing by the rules in place immaculately. I suppose much depends on the damage being done by the remaining 5%.

I think we’ll see a big improvement in numbers over the next week and the discussion can reasonably turn towards how we emerge from lockdown. I don’t realistically see it happening within the next 3 weeks though.

Only if you’re happy with asking the Police to stop and ask people how far they are from their home.

As far as I can see most folk are complying very well. More effective measures like closing car parking areas would be effective in stopping people driving to areas to exercise or walk dogs.

Just go for a walk or run locally. Just walk your dog locally. Don’t use your car.

Diggers were up at Cramond last week targeting the worm beds as they've decimated their own area and so now have to travel. I fully understand worm diggers will not be high on the priority list for the authorities to target, but surely it should be obvious now given how few folk are on the beach. They sell for about £50 for 200 inc delivery in case you're wondering.
