Can we have a new thread where posters can add their past match videos etc in one place, rather than across different threads

as we have had recently.

Great game! Amazing to think that Hearts went into that game as league leaders & they sacked Burley 2 weeks later! Crazy!

Two very strong teams there.

Hate to say it but Skacel was unplayable at times.

Riordan in the first half... ooft. That ball he played that O 'Connor hit wide was world class.

Probably the highest quality Derby I have seen.

Obviously games like 6-2 saw us perform to a high standard but it wasn't a great Hearts team. This game was 2 very strong teams who served up a brilliant game and we were deserved winners.

Iirc Hearts beat us twice at Tynecastle that season, we beat them twice at ER and there was some other game that I've forgotten about.

Burley was sacked the week before this game. Remember it well. Driving up to Aberdeen they talked of nothing else on the radio all the way up. Lovely biscuits! :greengrin

Sorry, you're absolutely correct. I should remember it well because it was my daughter's wedding in the Radisson on Royal Mile that day. I was belatedly writing my speech in the foyer while Romanov was marching around like a demented man, accompanied by a phalanx of bodyguards. He finally concluded his business on the phone & marched out to his car. We followed him out, went across to the Mitre for a pint & the breaking news on Sky Sports was that Burley had been sacked! Great day all round.

We had a London Hibs POTY function that day & were in a hospitality room under the old main stand. McLeish was Motherwell manager & came into see us after the game. Kept the coach waiting while he had a beer with us & he was very friendly. Great game & an outstanding goal. Well were a very decent team then.

What a midfield and front 3 that was! Shame the central defence and GK was so soft in that team.

IMHO there's not much between Boozy, Thomson and Stewart and McGinn, McGeouch and Allan as the best midfield units that I've seen at Hibs.

It's been said before, but the Brown we had then was an incredible player, it's quite disappointing to see the type of player he was turned into at Celtic when you look at the potential he had as an attacking midfielder/forward at Hibs.

Oh my God - what memories. Ray Wilkins. Graeme Donald. Jocky Scott. Gerry McNee as commentator sounding like a disgruntled Rangers fan. Unspeakable, biased, refereeing. And VHS hiss. The stuff of nightmares - even though we beat them.

We missed the first goal that night because of the queues to get in. It was my 1st European night and I remember being amazed by the fact there were Hibs fans in the away end.

Nearly 30 years on I still don't understand why Mickey Weir was sent off.

Usual great reffing! Rangers get a pen for a shocking dive by McCoist, Colin West gets a yellow for an off the ball punch to the face & Butcher gets a yellow for an elbow to the throat followed by a kick at Stevie Cowan. Plus ca change! Thx J, hope you're all good!

Obvious to say because he scored 2 goals but them bringing on Tsiartas totally changed the game. He was class, sure he got about 50 odd caps for Greece and was in the squad when they won the Euros.

Still if we'd had a better goalkeeper the game would have been different. I didn't much like Nick Colgan and seeing those highlights reminds me why.

Add to that the chance Luna had right at the end of normal time and we would have been through, although that would have been harsh in the extreme, he'd put us in with a chance. I really felt for Luna, he was a great player for us and was never the same after that game IMO. Still a game that'll live in the memory for ever.

While there's plenty to miss about that team in green, I do miss the days when Hearts had relevant villains in their team. Gordon, Neilsen, Wallace, Pressley, Hartley, Skacel...players we absolutely loved to hate, and who generated a bit of extra bite on derby days.

Nowadays, I can't think of a single player in their team of that ilk

What a fantastic thread! Well done and thanks to everyone who’s contributed so far.

Some of the earlier posts highlighting the Mowbray years was the first I’ve seen of that era in years and it’s absolutely frightening how good a side we had back then, genuinely. Surely Impossible for anyone to disagree that within the SPL era those boys were part of the front running best ever side outside of Glasgow. The amount of chances made in that first Motherwell game was ridiculous for us only to of won 2-1 in injury time and has led me on from reflecting to wondering what history may of looked like if dare I say it, we managed to take more of our chances back then and our defending wasn’t as slack at times.

Watching broony in those highlights blew me away and as a couple have touched upon already, you almost forget how much of a different prospect of a player he was for us back then to how he has been for most of his Celtic career. The only other player to display that kind of energy in the middle of the Park I’ve seen anyway has been McGinn. But out of curiosity and based purely on play, who would you rather have in your team?

Never mind the ref ..... I still haven't seen a team at ER before or since who cheated and play acted the way Anderlecht did that night. Mind, none of what they did can match the AEK keeper rolling about as if he had been shot when Tam McManus slid in with a challenge and didn't get within 3 feet of him ... as I recall McManus was booked for it ... oh for VAR.

Mind you, with goal line technology we would have lost the away leg 3 - 0 coz they had one not given that was probably a foot over the line :greengrin
