Can't argue. Obviously gutting for everyone who loves the sport, but that's how it has to be for the time being.

Eh! All football in Scotland has been cancelled until further notice - does that not answer the question.

The statement say all DOMESTIC football. Doesn't mention International football.

There’s no chance domestic football and European football gets postponed yet they still play the internationals, not a hope.

Probably for the same reasons the government has left it to the health and education boards to close down schools?

I had a look over the road. They are hoping to avoid relegation by having the season cancelled and putting in a legal challenge if told they're down.

..or the night before or the night before that?

I'm guessing here but it's probably as simple as they have had more advise from the government.

If they avoided relegation through this it would be as tainted as their 2012 cup win

Can't see Dundee Utd being overly pleased if they aren't promotted!

Or Raith. Or Cove, Cove for instance have spent massively taking the risk to go up, so have Dundee Utd, they will lose their best players and be in a much weaker position next season if they just void the league. That’s a lot less fair than relegating teams on current positions.

Yeah good point!

If the season is over (big if) then Dundee Utd promoted and Hearts down is the only option - no play-offs. And replicate this down the leagues.

Sensible decision under the circumstances, but why didn’t this decision come for our so called caring government.

It is not up to any government to decide what happens in sport, but just so you are aware of what was said by the first minister just yesterday.

The first minister said the advice on mass gatherings was a Scottish government decision designed to reduce the impact on the emergency services, rather then preventing the spread of the virus.

Who is telling Dick Campbell that Arbroath aren’t getting a shot at promotion playoff, while Dundee Utd and Inverness are going automatically up and no relegation from the Prem? :greengrin

Not really the only option.

Promote two teams from each league with no relegation.
That way we have 14 teams in the top league with an extended season and managed with the split, or splits, and have 4 in the drop zone play off. Same with the bottom league.

the sporting integrity much vaunted during the rangers troubles applied, no team really loses out although some may argue they might have improved their position the situation simply doesn't allow for it.

Plenty teams lose out in that scenario apart from the top league.

Championship loses its two best teams with no relegation from the Prem to cover loses, so does league one and two. Who comes up to league two? Do you think any of they clubs in it will agree to mass relegation to the pyramid the following season when it took decades for them to finally accept a heavily weighed play off with a highland or lowland league team?

Ozyhibby
13-03-2020, 12:16 PM
I think the split will almost certainly be gone and they will try play the last 3 games. Gives the yams 3 games to make up 4 points.

Every team in top league loses out as well. Revenue split 14 ways, less cat A games etc. Nobody wants a 14 team league and I can’t see them voting for it.

Strange decision by the Welsh government/rugby officials to still allow their game vs Scotland to go ahead tomorrow despite the actions we’ve seen taken around the UK this morning. Sheer stupidity or natural selection..?

A lot can happen over the next 3 weeks, but with 79% of the league complete there is absolutely zero chance they will be allowed to annul the season

More likely to scrap the split.
Only three games left to play and can do it in a week behind closed doors.
That will be that.

probably a lot of scots already down for the game, rugger fans plan ahead for the rugby internationals

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if all these future games in the SPL season are cancelled? I appreciate that it's the right thing to do, but surely there should be some kind of refund system in place, or are we just to 'ahh well, can't be helped' and get on with it? I should emphasize I'm not underestimating the potential danger of corona virus, I just wondered if any contingency plans are in place for something like that, unlikely as it may seem.

The 3 top league clubs that spring to mind right away are Livingston, Hamilton and St Johnstone.
All have taken on expensive players, and with no gate money it could be disastrous for them!
In the other leagues it will be the same, but with the indefinite lock down it could be many more!!!

mjhibby
14-03-2020, 10:18 AM
The financial implications are horrendous. Surely interest free loans should be given to all those in serious bother and that doesn't include the above three mentioned.

Cardiff will be the same minus the game. I'd imagine 99% of Scots were there or on the way when it was cancelled. Don't think they will be bothered. Party time!

Level 4 makes no difference to professional sport, otherwise there would have been no football in Glasgow in the past 3 weeks.
