View Full Version : Does anyone keep count of the number of Hibs games they've been to?

When I was a kid I used to try and list all the games I'd been to, in order, in my head. It was a good way of getting to sleep at night! However, the more games I went to the harder that got. These days I've got no idea, especially as my adult life has fluctuated from going almost every week to hardly at all depending on where I've been living, working at weekends etc, family commitments etc.

An educated guess would be around the 500 mark.

Not counted but my Dad took me to my first Hibs game in 1959. I've had a few "lost interest" spells over the years but I always venture back! These days it tends to be home games only however.

I think there was a thread once on it, I believe on rough estimate I’m about 750-850 games.

500 is a lot of derbies.

I'm unfortunate in the sense that I did not grow up in Scotland, and therefore I only went to a game-a-year at best as a kid, then a couple-a-year up until the age of 15, before my parents (bless them) said they were sound with me travelling from London to games by myself.

Consequently I've been able to keep a list of every single Hibs game I've been to in my life. A quick glance confirms that Saturday will be my 134th Hibs match. It feels like it has been so many more, but then I guess I am in my early twenties and have never lived in the same city (or indeed the same country until 2017!)

Pittodrie was my 751st game following Hibs.

I've been obsessive about stats etc since I was a child, and I always make a note of every football game I attend.

Full football record is:

964 games
122 grounds
19 different countries.

Moved from Chorley in 1987, First Hibs game was 14th November 1987 (1-0 win over Motherwell).

Hibs record for the games I've attended is:

Home (525 games)
Away (226 games)

Won 314
Drawn 217
Lost 220

Scored 1116
Conceded 882

I've got far too much time on my hands! 😄

I used to stick a clothes peg up on the washing line after every game.

But then we had to sell them to heat the caravan.

However my old grandad had 563 burnt spoons in his drawer when he passed away. I think that was his unique counting method.

Been attending games since mid to late 60s. We would go to ER one week then Tynecastle (spit) the next. Been going home and away since 1977. Had a season ticket for about 40 years now. When we played 44 league games a season taking into consideration cup ties, friendlies etc I would attend around 55 - 60 games a season. Must’ve been to well over 1500 matches. GGTTH

I went home and away almost religiously from 7-18. Missing a handful of games. Including pre season friendlies, European trips etc. Tried using that Futbology app but didn’t want to claim games I hadn’t been to/or miss games I have been to.

If Chorley is on 751 and didn’t start until 1987 then goodness knows. Wish I’d kept a diary.

Leaving Edinburgh when I was 7, and living in Canada since 1974, it's easy to keep track.
15 in total, 7 wins 2 draws 6 losses, For 27-Against 20
10 home 5 away.
BUT I know I was at some of the Dryburgh Cup matches 73-74, no idea which ones

First game against Dunfermline in 1963 when Neil Martin scores a diving header at the back post. 1-0 win. Saw a lot of European games through the sixties. Napoli, Hamburg and Sporting lisbon in the seventies. Started doing between 45 plus games since the 1969-70 season. Still going strong at 64 years young and last train back from Aberdeen on Saturday. Probably around 2300 games in total and still look younger than what I am thanks to watching the Famous.

Wow, that's pretty good record keeping.

Makes me wish I had started a record when my kids started going to games, so that they would know how many games etc they had been too. Point to remember for any new parent with young children.

Absolutely, had my first child in November and I can't wait to start her journey with Hibs.

This is pretty much identical to my record. My first game was a night game against St Mirren in 1963 (if that was the Willie Wilson head injury, taken off and came back on to play on the wing with a bandage on his napper, whilst Cormack went in goals) at the age of 4. Went to as many games as my dad would take me to or if he could afford it for a few seasons after that. Then a regular at every home game from around 68/69 season. Never stopped going since then and don’t ever intend to. 2,300 you say.? Would never have guessed that - thanks.!

Ha ha glad it wasn’t just me that was thinking this when reading this thread!

Loved the post that detailed the 900 odd games and had the grounds counted and everything! Respect [emoji106]

When you work it out in actual money spent, it is not so great.

My first game was in 1975. Even one game a year from then until now is 45 games. If you chuck in the number of away games I've been to plus friendlies it must be closer to 2000 than 1000.

My first match was 1968. Traveled to away games regularly from around 1973 up to the mid-90's when away games took a back seat although I still attended home games and the odd away trip. There was period in the 80's when a few of us went to every game home and away for 5 years. If you work on an average of 30 games a season that's circa 1500 matches give or take a hundred. Jeez.

My core away game count covers a great period in the 70's along with a peak during the mind-numbing Miller seasons.

A mate had a wall chart on which he recorded every single Hibs game he went to, he started in the late 60's too and he's still in the same house. Last I heard he was still filling it in. Gonna need a bigger wall I think.

First went in 1968 I think so well over 1000.

50 seasons at 20 games a season would hit the 1000 mark, easily achieved that.

Definitely not hit 2000, probably 1500 would be a reasonable estimate.

Over 3000 Hibs goals perhaps? Still get a buzz when we score.

My son worked it out that my 2000th game was our 2-1 win v The Rangers at the huns ground in early 2018.
