I think it was in the early 80s when new premium phone numbers were available for fans to get up to date news from their clubs.

I regularly used the Hibs one but I can't remember if there was a way to get the calls cheaply or free because I don't remember paying any huge phone bills.

Basically it was click bait for phones. Dial bait, maybe.

I probably used my work phone but I really can't remember.

I knew someone that phoned it after a night out. Woke up next morning next to phone still playing the recording.

Don't think his mum was too chuffed with the phone bill.

Got pulled claims of historic lewd behaviour by two young ladies against Father Andy ( allegedly)

Must be true was in the Daily Ranger

I remember I used to get a bottle of Sun Kool Cola and listen to it on a Saturday after watching Starsky and Hutch and Sportscene ( strange but I always thought the Huns were at a disadvantage playing in what appeared to be wellie boots with their big black socks) and try and work out if the calls were genuine or a wind up

Three Hail Marys my son!

Nah, I was sent to the marriage guidance people like 50% of the other callers - the other 50% were sent the Citizen's Advice Bureau.

Father Andy is still kicking about covering holidays etc for priests in the Archdiocese. The claims against him were investigated, internally and externally, and came to nothing. I don't wish to make light of claims of abuse because it obviously was and is a real problem but I'm convinced the claims against Fr Andy were orchestrated. There is a traditionalist Catholic blog and website which specialises in trying to smear and discredit liberal and 'modernist' clergy and laity. They seem to struggle with the fact that some Catholics actually live in the real world and don't see every issues as black and white.

For what it's worth, I always thought that Andy came across as a really sound bloke. He seemed to deal well with issues that would have been difficult for some RCs and was also extremely patient with tits like my good self who called on the wind up (which was probably a fair percentage of all callers).

Didn’t listen to the programme but Father Andy was my priest out at Pathhead. Really lovely guy. He was "suspended" for a while but eventually came back. He retired as a parish priest about 3 years ago and covers for other priests now.

Yeah, I remember you used to get little credit card sized fixture lists. There used to be a club call advert on these cards.

Anyone remember the Radio HIBS hut West Lower and Rikki Raginas Programme Hut ( handy for nicking the pies off the slabs on the way to the Catering Hut😁) situated East Terracing promenade before Shaws Heights

Father Andy, that was a show and hard to suss out what was genuine. I remember listening to him using the breathing into a bag technique. Also remember a guy saying there were people at his window. Andy was reassuring him until he said he was three floors up. I think even Andy must have had a laugh or two.

I used to call the club line every day from work, it was 88 when i was down south and had my first job in London. From a distance it was the only way to keep up to date with things back in the day along with the London Hibs meetings where we got some gossip on what was happening.

Changed days when now almost every bit of news is reported instantly (or often in advance)

Only way I could get updates from the Videoton away match. Thankfully there wasn't itemised phone bills back then.
