One of my posts about the relevance of Thatcher to the current Scottish Tory’s, and discussions about whether to put up a Sun link or not got me thinking. How long is it fair to hold a grudge over something that happened in the past?

I know it’s a case by case basis, and each person’s opinion will vary but is still as valid as anyone else’s. That caveat out the way, is it fair, for example, for the current people and journalists at the Sun to be tarred with the stigma of what the paper done in the 80s. Same with the current Scottish Conservatives, is it fair to attach them to the stigma of Thatcher. I’ve no time for either example, for many reasons, but can’t say Hillsborough or Thatcher feature prominently in my opinion because it was before my time. At the other end of the scale, and to invoke Godwin’s law early, no one holds the current Germany responsible for WW2.

Curious as to people’s thoughts on the general subject, not so much specifically the examples used.

Wow, huge question with many answers. Depends on who/what hurt you or your loved ones and if they still hold the same views or behave the same way. Buddhism and every counsellor you speak to will tell you to let go as you're only hurting yourself with negative emotions.
I was pretty political during that bitches time and can say with absolute honesty I hate Tories with every fibre of my being. I have however completely forgiven ex wives who managed to **** my life up in many ways. Theres no one answer fits all.

The sun is still a crap paper, it didn't learn from mistakes in the past and continues in a similar vein. Worthy of continuing boycott.

The Torys Scottish branch hails her as a hero and many mold themselves in her image. Their head office hold Scotland in utter contempt. They've not changed much since her day so there's no reason to trust them now.

... and I still don't like Leeds United and hope they continue in the lower English leagues, the lower the better. That's since we played them in the 70s.

Pretty much sums it up for me. It's all about redemption.

For The Sun as long as it takes for them to go out of business another loss of the same amount next year might do it.
