The very sad truth of the matter is that, although I'm joking, there will be people waiting eagerly for Lewis to make a mistake so they can rush on here and say "I told you do. I'm right and you're wrong".
Other players won't be subject to the same scrutiny and may make more mistakes or try less hard, but they won't be criticised.
I know the criticism, and often insults, have hurt and confused Lewis. I'm just glad that he's got the mental strength to push through them and give his all twice a week, every week.
Edit: I just noticed I quoted myself instead of editing, before some dafty takes the piss. :greengrin
Yep. Half of the times that the usual suspects on here start blaming Hanlon or Stevenson for a goal conceded it's nothing to do with them. I've started blocking the worst offenders and it's amazing how on matchday threads where we're winning they're quiet as a mouse yet when we're losing the board is flooded with "This message has been hidden.
Of the players to decide to pin the blame on, it's bizarre.
As I say, I blame the lack of a midfielder who can drop into the back line when our full backs want to push forward for the fact that McGregor/Hanlon/Porteous/Jackson all of a sudden looks like a leaky combination no matter who you pick, and also the lack of Boyle for the first third of the season and the lack of competition for Horgan who doesn't track back well for our full backs being less effective in an attacking sense. So many times you've had Lewis, Naismith, Gray or James trying to stop two players at the same time out wide, or you've had our two central defenders flooded by others.
We could also do with a couple more physical midfielders to defend set pieces to allow Doidge to stay up front more often, meaning that clearances stand a chance of sticking higher up the pitch.

There is a middle ground somewhere. In some eyes stevenson can do no wrong and take criticism personally and I can kind of see why. Stevenson was at fault for the goal on Sunday and if you watch the highlights again he lost his man in a similar position but outside the box early in the game which could have led to a goal had their player showed more composure.
I hope we put in a decent performance today leading to no grumbling and arguing. Hopefully Stevenson can discover some form and confidence also and improve his game as it’s needed for the good of the team.

Of course they targeted him from a free-kick its not like put someone the size of Lionel Messi was up against him. They made sure one of the tallest players were up against him and Stevenson , the defence , the whole team never got it sorted.
Is that another to add the list .
Its no his fault because the other players was to big.
The wind targeted him.
Someone else should have picked him up.
There were Hibs fan booing and abusing him some even had pitch forks.
For the record I have tremendous respect for both Hanlon and Stevenson and if I was to meet them in a pub I would shake their hand , hug them , thank them for winning the Scottish Cup and buy them a drink.
My original opinion was that they needed to be replaced if we wanted to finish 4th we need better , some agreed , some disagreed.
Comments you made were people were talking pish your oponion was the only that mattered , smart arse remarks.
I will be there tonight hoping that the 2 of them have great games and we have a comfortable win will you be there ? if you are if someone comments about Hanlon or Stevenson will you tell them to there face they are talking pish or is that just on football message boards

Sorry but a big player getting a run on a short one is not the opposition targeting him and even if it was it would be an utterly ludicrous thing to blame him for. What he supposed to go? Grow 6 inches overnight?

I agree with every word of this regarding where our biggest problems lie.

Shouldn't our top positions in the window be ones where, instead of a lack of competition to a long established incumbent, we have no natural fit at all within the current squad?
Like a natural DM, a natural left winger etc. If there's an affordable upgrade left back out there then yeah, why not, but I think there may be a reason or 2 beyond sentiment that Lewis has seen off umpteen rival full backs and been a first choice, more or less, for well over a decade.

My partner did know that the goal was coming from the set piece too. The TV was on in the background as she whisked me through to the bedroom in a moment in passion and somehow knew to ask if it was in yet before we even heard the commentator saying it was a goal for BSC.
She should get a job in our coaching team.

I think it’s worth remembering that, in terms of being our first pick left back, Stevenson has ‘only’ done that job for two and a half years in the top league. Got the position our first year in the championship but prior to that he generally filled in where needed and spent a lot of time in midfield.
I don’t think think we’ve ever signed someone that is a genuine threat to the position since he started playing it regularly.
He was brilliant first year back up. Not at that level last year but still at a reasonable standard. And, IMO, the standard has dropped again this year to the point that we need to be addressing it.

If he was not targeted what do you think happened , BSC centre half ,look we have got a free kick think I will take a walk up to there box for it. How did that happen I am standing beside Lewis Stevenson , hope nobody thinks I have targeted him and the person taking the free kick plays it towards me.
We lost a goal that was it , should been defended better by Stevenson , the defence , the team .Stevenson should have looked to pass player on , someone should have been shouting organising things and one of the taller players looking to take the man off him.
You want to answer the bit below;

I've just watched the BSC goal again.
The free kick was about 45 yards from our goal and must have travelled about 40 of them before the BSC centre half got his head on it.
Given they were playing with a gale behind them, I don't believe for a second that he meant to put the ball there.
He just meant to lob it into the box in the hope that someone would knock it down and they'd try to win the second ball.
However, the wind kept it in the air and it blew over its target to the back post. If he meant it, he's a set piece genius.

Yep. Set pieces were, at best, the toss of a coin as to how they went.

Playing as an attacking midfielder against Hibs must be one of the most sought after jobs in Scottish football. You are allowed to carry the ball for up to 50 yards without interruption, pause, have a look round and then put it where you think it'll cause most damage as your fellow midfielders trot past you to collect the second ball should one of our defence manage to block the pass.I wonder why we lose so many goals?

It was a lot easier to play the ball in with the wind than against it.

I thought that was already established. Lewis Stevenson is of course the reason we lose so many goals. Apparently.

In the early part of the season yes. In the last few months virtually every goal we lose is from a set piece or via full backs failing to stop crosses.
