EEN journalist are desk bound these days. The get their news from the web. No better than the old Edinburgh Advertiser that used to come out once a week. It will be gone in 5 years.

I often think there must still be a market for a decent local news outlet, primarily online with maybe a monthly or quarterly print edition. Extensive local sports coverage taking in more than Hibs, Hearts and Edinburgh Rugby, a bit local history, local reports that go beyond an obsession with trams and a few human interest stories.

I still glance at the EEN website on a daily basis and it's shocking. Practically unreadable becauae of the overlay adverts and layout. Edinburgh Live is just sponsored content; 'The 10 best new cafes in Edinburgh' conveniently featuring 7 of the same ones we plugged in another 'article' last week. They also feature cringe inducing '15 things about Edinburgh that are better than Glasgow' whilst Glasgow Live does the same in reverse. The editor used to churn out the same pish for years when she worked at Buzzfeeed.

Agree, but I’d extend the comment to a wholesale dislike of the Scotsman as it is now. Picked up a free copy in the airport this morning. Contempt for the Scottish Government (but really I think they mean the snp) dripping from every page and given a front page splash. The letters page contains multiple tweets all criticising SNP/ScotGov. Yet in the same edition UK Govt. U-turn on border checks for imports given scant comment. “Oh it’s changed”. Disgusting from the former national paper of Scotland. Its demise cannot come soon enough.

Great example of all that is left of the EEN.

Article says that it’s everything you need to know about him but all it really is is whatever they could get from his Instagram account. I know it’s just a daft Love Island contestant but if he’s local you would have expected them to have found out where he lived, where he went to school etc.

OK, here's another one. Is it just me or...?

"Free lunches worth £18,000 for Edinburgh councillors back on the table after plans to scrap them stall"

"As it stands, councillors attending full council meetings, which take place around ten times a year, costing the city £550 a time."

"However, councillors are set to approve a move to retain the status quo after a report found the majority view of all political groups was to keep the lunches, projected to cost £18,000, the same as the salary for a social care worker."

"Green councillor Gavin Corbett said £12,000 could be saved by scrapping the lunches, adding: “That means if lunch continues to be available at full council meetings, it should only be on a paid-for basis."

So do the lunches cost £5,500, £12,000 or £18,000?

Is it any wonder our budgets never seem to work?
