I never really liked McFadden as a player. He was a very talented player capable of moments of absolute brilliance but was also not a very good team player. He had a tendency to try and always take players on in areas where there was no benefit instead of making simple passes. I think that’s why he never really played consistently as part of a team throughout his career. Very frustrating to watch even in a Scotland jersey. Absolutely loved his goal in Paris though.

Fair enough. Your first sentence explains why you don't think he wss that good a player.

I'm not convinced though, that someone who wasn't a team player, would have had the career he had though.

The Everton team he played in was all about hard work and team effort. Likewise Scotland. He gave everything for the team in every match he played.

He never really made the Everton team on a regular basis though. Lucky if he got 20 games a season and not all of them were starts. He just wasn’t regarded as a team player despite his obvious talent.
