What makes your opinion any more valid than anyone else’s? Just curious. Apart from facts clearly painting Hanlon in decent like for the majority of this season, I’m sure you can provide some facts on why he is ‘ageing’ and ‘far from excellent’.

It’s a fact Hanlon lost his man for the first goal on sat. How did that make him excellent?

He’s slowed down considerably also. There’s a fact on him ageing.

You can easily get blocked off from one corner and still have an excellent game. The fact that 2/3 others didn’t defend their area resulted in a small error becoming a goal. He certainly wasn’t ‘far from excellent’, he won his duals as he does most weeks, a solid left sided centre half as per his stats. He was never bursting with pace, hardly slowed considerably.

He wasn’t blocked off, he was marking the goalscorer and lost him/concentration. McGregor was better than him.

We drew 2-2 with the team third bottom of the league. He was at fault for the first goal and part of a shambolic defence. He wasn’t excellent by any stretch of the imagination. You genuinely watched that and at full time went “***** draw but Hanlon was excellent today apart from being at fault for the first goal”? If so fair enough it’s your opinion 👍

He wasn’t bursting with pace, but it was an asset and his energy, even through the years of him being bullied by defenders, that’s gone now. And he’s not a top four defender any longer.

He didn’t get blocked off? Let’s not make things up to suit your argument. He can only win his duels, read the game, and keep his distribution up, as he continues to do, weekly. He’s a centre half and your argument is that defenders bullied him? Where? When? He only faced defenders when attacking and defending set pieces and you think he was bullied?

Hanlon has never been assertive enough and does often get outmuscled by strikers.

We lost the first goal on Saturday because he lost his man, regardless of whether he gets blocked off or not, he's already lost his man and been caught wrong side, McGregor then doesn't react quick enough and it ends up being a free header at the front post.

It's elementary stuff to stay goal side of your man, especially at set pieces.

Hanlon was the best of the defence on Saturday. He was quite often the man marking the big lump they played up front, a guy considerably larger than him and he won most of the battles in the air and on the deck. Bullied.... my erse.

As for the goal......

Yes,Hanlon was blocked, so what was McGregor doing? He was the spare man and should have attacked the ball. The Saints player ran several yards to reach it. Ultimately, as with most goals, it was a combination of factors. Singling out and blaming Paul Hanlon is totally ridic. It's also very tiresome to hear the same crap trotted out ad nauseum. FFS, make a point but constantly repeating the same argument doesn't make you right, it just makes you seem like a bored and tiresome twat.

Hanlon's not being singled out, quite the opposite actually.

The defence has been absolutely gash all season, and they've all played there part.

You're correct in saying McGregor should have attacked the ball, he was caught sleeping and got beaten to the header, however, if hanlon doesn't lose his man and get caught wrong side, then the boy doesn't get to that position in the first place.

None of the defence get pass marks from me so far this season, and Hanlon is certainly no exception

I wasn't really referring to your post, but the old outmuscled cliché is nonsense. He won most of his battles on Saturday, agreed?

The guy blocked him, not much you can do about that. McGregor was sleeping, he could have been more alert.

I do agree that the defence has been poor over the course of the season. None of them have been outstanding, including Hanlon.
