HIBS have agreed a five-figure fee for St Mirren ace Paul McGinn.

Jack Ross identified the right back as a top January target after on-loan Peterborough star Jason Naismith was ruled out for the season with a long-term injury.

And SunSport understands that an agreement has been reached for the 29-year-old Buddies defender.

With the transfer deadline quickly approaching, the Edinburgh club are moving fast to get this one over the line.

Barring any last-minute hitches, Paul, brother of Aston Villa and Scotland star John and Saints skipper Stephen, could make his Hibs debut AGAINSTJim Goodwin's men this weekend.

The Buddies travel to Easter Road on Saturday for the Premiership clash.

Hope we haven't paid £99,999 for this guy

It'll be half that or less, imo.

Well done hibs. Too often players from other premiership clubs are looked down on, certainly from hibs over the years

Sure I saw a mention of 35k somewhere. Think he will be a good signing. Good luck Paul. Wonder if he will go straight in against his old team tomorrow see no reason not to imo.

Me too, he maybe thought that at 29 a move to a bigger club had passed him by, and for that reason I think he’ll bust a gut to impress. Good luck to him if the deal is completed.

Was initially a bit MEH about this tbh but having watched Tom James on Tues night and read St Mirrens fans comments about Paul - looks like a very decent bit of business

Well chuffed about Paul. Think he’ll turn into a great signing. If he has a quarter of johns talent he’ll do great

So, has actually signed? Last I heard/read, he was going through a medical (has he failed it? or are the club just holding back announcements until all/any deals are done)?

He has been playing week in week out for Saints so won’t have failed it Maybe just ironing out length of contract and signing on fee etc
Would imagine S J M will have told him to jump at the chance

My mate who has a good source says £40k and 18 months

18 months makes sense with the option of another year

I remember Joe Davis did exactly that, made his Hibs debut against his old club ( Third Lanark) just five days after signing.

IIRC Lexo's first match as Hibs manager was against former club St Mirren.

If I was St Mirren I'd be making sure he doesn't play for us tomorrow....they're in a relegation battle so why give us any advantage. They'll know all about our weaknesses at full back at the moment
