Can I ask why you are hacked off with TSB? I am with them too and have been for 27 years but recently have thought about changing accounts myself. Messed up my new contactless card, let me down on a another issue, hard to deal with and solve my queries, and a few other issues. Just wondering if same type of issues.

I was thinking of moving my business account away from RBS, due to the amount they charge for transactions.
Trouble is, I really like their phone app.

I switched from RBS to BOS a couple of years ago. Dead simple using the automatic switch facility. I think I could have done it online but arranged to speak to local BOS and they kicked things off.

As well as the account balance, DDs, SOs, payee details all came across perfectly exactly when expected Only thing I had to request myself was a cheque book.

Switched from TSB to Nationwide last year after being with them 20 years. Hassle free and if you get a referral £100 in your pocket.

On two occasions now we have had our cards stopped from using online/foreign transactions in case of fraudulent activity. I have no real concerns about this, apart from the fact they don't tell you this has happened and you only find out later when your card gets declined. Then you find out why their customer ratings are so low when you try to solve the issue. Why they can't send an immediate text if they suspect something is wrong is beyond belief, so I've about had it with them. Been with them for decades, but now want a bank that gives a damn about it's customers.

i switched to rbs about 8 years ago, and totally echo your sentiments. Really easy, pain free.

I did it online, I could have had all the DDs etc transfer automatically, but I took the option of getting a copy of all the monthly transactions sent to me so I could sift through them properly and decide if there was any I didn’t want carried over, which slowed the process by a week or so.

Really straightforward process these days. Done it quite a few times! If you decide to go with Nationwide, feel free to give me a shout as I can recommend a friend for £100 each.

Never had a problem with Halifax, personally. I have however played the switching game recently with a ‘spare’ current account so have had experience with quite a few banks. Had liked NatWest with our joint account but they’ve slashed their cashback benefits so have moved to HSBC - quite like the app and we got £175 for switching, though it seemed to take an age to get the account set up (may have been due to it being a joint account to be fair for sending off signed forms etc).

I did find First Direct very easy to deal with and they must rate quite highly as not only did they award £100 for opening the account, but paid out another £100 for leaving them!

I've done it a few times, it's not really any hassle at all. If you're planning on applying for a mortgage/loan soon it's worth holding off. Holding an account for a long time can go in your favour when it comes to applying for credit.

Lloyds & RBS are both decent, have good apps, but don't have great switching offers.

HSBC have the best switching offer and a good linked savings but I found the app a bit clunky so I closed it.

Nationwide is a very good all rounder, decent savings and branches if that's a requirement. Their paid for account is great value if you have a family. As others have said you can get £100 each with a referral. I'd go with that (either the free account or paid for, depending on what suits you).

Done it a number of times. I've been with First Direct for a number of years now, and although there are incentives to switch I wouldn't as I find the service they provide first class. You can do most online / over the phone. They pick up the phones quickly, and are very helpful. If I ever have cash or a cheque to pay in I can do it at the post office.

We switched our joint account a couple of weeks ago, not too much hassle at all and with the new one (Santander) you get 15% cash back at Morrison’s which was the main attraction.

Is that a permanent offer? I work opposite a Morrisons so spend an absolute fortune in there so that would come in really handy.

Just switched to Starling Bank last month. Smooth so far. Banking app is simple and easy to use. Notices of any payments etc are rapid to my phone. For instance as soon as my card is accepted at a self service petrol pump it’s flagged up on the app. (Usual £1 payment) As soon as I finish the transaction the proper total is then updated and again messaged straight to my phone.

A Starling account is great for using abroad .. never thought of it as an everyday account though (not for any particular reason, just that it was recommended for use abroad).

I would also like to switch bank accounts. I offer to switch with Jeff Bezos but he hasn’t responded.

Have a look at money saving expert website for details of switching offers. I've done it a few times and picked up best part of £1k overall, and every switch has gone pretty smoothly.
