Absolutely outstanding. Take a bow boys! Keep it up. A few critics (me included) silenced.

Both of them were excellent.

Newell just keeps getting better and better and Whittaker was by far our best player tonight

Both are technically excellent footballers. Staggering that both have been a target for abuse.

Would keep Whittaker in midfield and see how he does. May be worth another deal.

Newell has played himself into being one of the first names on the team sheet.

Agreed both absolutely outstanding tonight...Whitts rolled back the years with a virtuoso performance

The Captain....

I think Jack Ross deserves a lot of credit for being brave enough to bring him on thru the middle v Hamilton. If it had gone wrong folk would've been piling in with the criticism.

Well said that man. Whittaker especially was superb first half. Newell’s composure for the assist was also superb

Newell becoming an important player. Very clever, very aware.

:agree: Strolled the game tonight. If he could just add a bit more dig and industry to his game he'd be top class.

The pair of them were outstanding.

Newell has, over the course of the last 2 and a half games, shown that he is one of our best players.

Whittaker has actually had a decent season, he’s not let us down when called upon and on occasion has been hung out to dry.

It makes you wonder why these 2 have not played more games and how much better our season might have been had they played more.

I’d be giving Whittaker a new deal on that showing. And Newells ball in the run up to the corner for the 3rd was as good as anything Allan has done recently.

Defo eating my words regarding Newell and I’m also glad others are seeing what I’ve been seeing in Whittaker.

Can't get over how good Whitts was, delighted for him. Newell strolled it too, particularly the second half. Love a good redemption story.

Both great until they tired. Dare I say it Newall is turning into a better “quarterback” than Dylan.

The corner for Doidge’s header was a cracking delivery as well.

Shades of the younger Whittaker. Excellent game.
Newell was on a game before injury and coming on it again.
Plus Doidge. Again.

His mazy run and shot that hit the post was Messi like :)
Says it all ,when a guy scores a treble and doesn’t win the man of the match .
Well done SW .

The only problem with Whittaker is that he’ll be in bits after that tonight and will struggle to put a run of games together. If we can bring him in for certain games and he can play like that I’d have no complaints though.

Newell needs to keep working hard. Being able to play a bit helps but simply getting stuck in and giving his all is getting folk onside as much as anything.

Well now! That would be quite a turnaround.

For those of us listening on the radio, amazing to hear him get MOTM while Doidge got a hat trick. Must have been a vintage performance.

Both did fantastic. Still disappointed with Whittaker not passing when through on goal in the first half but I can let it slide this time 😁

No problem with your comments but highlights our need to strengthen in midfield. Hope and expect Omeonga to do some heavy lifting.

Both played well tonight on the ball but don’t get too excited, we still need players who can close down the space in there.
It would be uncharitable for me not to say that Whittaker had a good game.

I'd be up for giving him a new deal. He's been excellent when called upon this season. Newell reminds me of Stephen Glass. Was that his kid playing for Dun Utd tonight?

Really, really pleased for Newell. Got a lot of stick, some of it deserved, a lot of it not but shown what he's all about now he's in the right position. Hope he pushes on.

Both were really good tonight, however it’s not a medium or even long term solution but tonight it certainly worked against a team in the division below us.

Why isn't Newall a long term solution? Very good player.

In games where we have a lot of possession, they're a good pair. If we're in more of a battle, Omeonga and Hallberg come in for Whittaker.

If you didn’t think that was a battle tonight you were watching a different game from me.Possession was near 50/50 and Whittaker showed a huge desire to win his battles. To me he showed what you need to do to stay at the top for a long spell. If some of our players learn from that the team will be better for it.

Whittikar was brilliant - Composure on the ball, used it very well, drove forward and won the ball back a lot. Should have had, what would have been 2 brilliant goals.

Newell has been brilliant in the last 3 games, absolute wand of a left foot and drives forward from the middle of the park. I actually remember Hecky doing in interview start of the season saying Newell could add another dynamic to our play with his driving runs through the middle, then chose to play him out wide? We’re now seeing exactly what he offers. He’s also very good at reading the game, picking up scraps and winning the ball back. He also shapes his body brilliantly, forcing the opposition into a certain pass which means we can read it easier, press and win it back.

Really good interview with Newell and Doidge on HTV. Newell said it was an honour to share the pitch with Whittaker tonight, that's some praise.

Was gonna post about this. Good interview, Newell comes across as a really nice guy. I’ll put my hands and admit I had given up on him earlier in the season but he’s been excellent the past few games, long may it continue. Makes you wonder why Heckingbottom insisted on playing him out wide??

Because Heckingbottom didn't have a ****ing clue that's why.

Sounded like Newell had another good game, do remember the 2-2 ross county game playing wide left and he didnt look interested and deservedly got pelters from the east but boy has he improved since playing more central.

Have to say I was worried when I saw Whittaker starting but he was good as anyone if not one of our better players last night.

Newell at centre mid looks like a new signing. Why he was signed to play out wide I have no idea because on recent showings he could have helped our midfield problem a long time ago. Totally won me over.
