How come he left Dundee United?

“It sounds like a cliché, but it really has been a hope of mine - a dream - to play in America.” Stanton said.

least that is what he says in the press release, will see what he thinks when it is 108f at kick off!

How come he left Dundee United?

His contract was up in the summer and he hadn't been playing much recently.

That’s hot, but got to be better than 0!

Was reading into the team. Top team in the second tier and applied for mls expansion. Looks like a good move for the lad. Was part of a group who just came through at the wrong time with management issues.

The Grass is always greener on the other side. Especially when you can't grow grass at all.

Always like to see players that have come through our academy who are not good enough for us make a living out of the game.

He could stay in the Hassayampa.

LOL, I guess he is not that local, but round these parts 1.5 hour away is "local".

Can't wait to see him play next month

The kind of move I’m surprised not more bang average Scottish players make. Good luck to him.

No any worse than the likes of Slivka, Halberg, Mallen or even Horgan. Very fine lines in football these days.

Best of luck Sam.

Good luck Sam, should be a good move and a good lifestyle over there.

Scored the first hibs goal my son ever saw (equaliser v Partick) so he's alright with me 👍

Would have played with McPake at Hibs

Mcpake seems to be signing loads of old Hibs and Hearts players. I think he would improve Dundee though having seen them twice recently.

I still believe there was a fine footballer in Sam Stanton that was mis-managed.

He was decent enough technically. Just never had enough physically imo.

Same problem we have had with a lot of our youth players recently. Especially the ones that broke through around that time

Exactly. He’s a guy who should have spent more time in the gym trying to add some pounds. A fine footballer but lacking physically.

Nah. He wasn't good enough.

Xavi and Iniesta weren't exactly units.

Rising FC listed him as 1 of 8 players back for next year 3 weeks ago on Facebook page, maybe something has changed.

Yup. File alongside Handling and Shaw.

I don’t think he was anything spectacular but I think he was good enough on the ball. That’s about it though, just good enough.

His lack of physical ability let him down though imo and overall he wasn’t good enough for Hibs.

Shaw is miles ahead of Handling. No comparison there.

Would you ever see Sam scoring 2 goals away at Hearts? Or winners against the old firm?

Those players are all well better than Stanton.

I dreamed of another Stanton in the team, unfortunately He was just not good enough to get a regular game for us, at least he seems to be making a decent living out of the game. I wish I could have been as good as he is, doing something I loved and being paid for it.

I liked him, thought he was good and didn’t ever really think he let us down. I was disappointed he didn’t get more opportunities as I thought he might have thrived alongside some of the players we had at that time. In all fairness, we weren’t exactly short of good midfielders around the time he left, and having managed to recruit outstanding midfielders so effortlessly under Stubbs, we might have been forgiven for thinking we’d continue to do so rather than toil badly.

Later I went to a United game with my mate and he acquitted himself well there too.

Many players it eventually becomes clear that they aren’t good enough. I’ve never really seen such a level of performance from Stanton. By way of comparison, I’ve probably now seen more than 20 such performances from Stevie Mallan.

I liked Sam, technically very good but lacked physicality, something you could say about a lot of Jim McDonagh's young players at that time from the development set up.
