Unsure if there's been a thread on this already, there was a chant of 'paedo' throughout the game yesterday, who was that aimed at?

Looked like it might have been aimed at Scott Allan? (ex Dundee FC?) Ridiculous, of course, and the police should do something about it. No one should be able to do this, just cause "its a laugh"

Aye, it was aimed at Scott Allan. Not because of the fact he's ex dundee though.

It's because he's ex Dundee Utd and left them under slightly acrimonious circumstances.

Weird thing to chant. Football fans though, are by and large weird.

Cheers, thought it was allan myself at the time but was still confused as it's a senseless chant that holds no weight, strange bunch those utd fans

If anyone is genuine outraged by this, I can only assume you've not been to a derby at Tynecastle over the past decade.

Not saying it's ok but this is not really a moral high ground we can take.

There must be somewhere people can write to about this?

I suspect it is slightly different chanting about it at a club who employed knowingly hired a registered sex offender, then retained another as opposed to chanting it at a player whose crime was to leave a club?

All round weird behaviour though.

Yep slightly different but pathetic and unnecessary in any circumstances.

As you say, all round weirdness.

The paedo banter is just chronic.

There was a game at St Mirren when we were in the Championship and a guy in front of me screamed 'paedoooooo' every time Jamie Langfield touched the ball. Maybe with a bit of context it would be funny but just shouting someone is a paedo makes no sense and is amusing to no one except absolute simpletons.

Don't think anyone is outraged, I posted the thread because I was genuinely unsure who it was meant to be aimed at and just wanted clarification.

There's a cracking wee site called hibs.net

Everyone's an absolute joy to talk to.

In defence of those doing the chanting yesterday it’s good that they’re at least listening to the warnings of their mums and dads about who to talk to after school.

There was a section of numpties near the tunnel who were calling Pawlett a pedo a few times during the first half. Bizarre behaviour...

It's the ned insult along with the equally deplorable I hope so and so gets cancer. What goes through their pea brains before shouting this stuff?

I'm pretty thick skinned but I find this "paedo" chanting sickening.

It's a vile thing to say about anyone and is under no circumstances even a wee bit funny.

The biggest message I hear when it's shouted is about the shouter rather than the intended target - it basically labels the shouter classless lowlife **** with the IQ of an amoeba.

Made about as much sense as the small group behind me in Section D that were singing about "the Ed'n'bru Hibees, the Timaloys"

Most of them were quite young but the guy in the middle, that started the chant, looked even older than me.

Each to their own, I suppose, but seems a bit stupid.

People who chant that sort of thing probably have dubious sexual inclinations themselves.

Don't understand either of them, Ed'n'bru? What's that supposed to mean?
Timaloys. Tim as in celtic fan? He sounds more confused than me

As you said, bit stupid

Your right, to me it's symptomatic of a general coarseness in today's society, not just confined to football.

It is entirely possible that the term paedo or paedophile is not actually understood by your cranially challenged below average knuckle dragging "ultra" wannabe and as a consequence it is being misused out of ignorance as just a general term of abuse such a canute, barsteward and jambo are applied.

If they understood the kiddy fiddling bit they might not use it

I had a meeting once with South Ayrshire's - Principal Economic Development Officer.

Can we shout it at him?

It's an old Hibs song. It's pronounced Ednbra, or just Embra.

The Tim Alloy thing refers to our Catholic heritage, although it was actually a Glasgow Catholic gang so why Hibs fans sung it is unclear.

Is the correct answer.
Those that get aggressive in public and call folk paedo's, poofs and homo's are the thickest of the thick and the lowest of the low.

I remember well vitriolic paedo shouts by Hibs supporters directed at Richard Gough in the West when I was a young guy. Even then I thought it was vile and thought they should have been arrested or thrown out the stadium.

As I recall, back in the day we used to sing "Turnbull-oys" as a customised tribute version to the Tornadoes

Cringey patter. Hate when sets of supporters come out with this stuff, including our own. Isn't in the slightest bit humorous or witty, just downright embarrassing tbh.

'Paedo' has become a generic go-to insulting term, like 'p-o-o-f' and 'w-a-n-k-e-r' used to be in my youth. Thus it's usually deployed by young people and older simpletons. It's therefore devalued, as when you encounter a genuine one like Rix, the sting is removed by its constant and unremitting deployment against the populace as whole, simply because you don't like them, or they've annoyed you at the time.

I dislike fools shouting it at some player who plays for the opposition, but mainly due to its witlessness. It's now too generic to be genuinely offensive. Impressionable youth parroting it and guffawing at least have the option of growing up. With the older cretinous baboons, the benefit is generally lies in the self-identification idiocy-signaling by those embarrassments whom you would instinctively cross the road to avoid.

Nah, it wasn’t at Scott Allan.

I was near the corner between the Fair Play and the Shed, under the TV stand, and there was a very amusing back and forth between a bunch of 20-30 y/os on our side, and the United young team. (Lots of GIFUY, maw, fatty, specky, incest banter.)

In amongst our lot there was an auld boy who was joining in quite passionately, so the United Young team turned on him, and starting giving him the paedo chant. The auld boy responded in an absolute cringe way, and replied by blowing kisses back at them, which naturally caused the chant to continue.

That was my fault for 'summarising' the wording

:greengrin

The origin, as others have said, was a catholic gang from Glasgow in the early 1900s called "the Tim Malloys", kind of the Celtc equivalent of "the Billy Boys"........ so no connection to Hibs whatsoever.
