That’s a real blow

Not good news. Our squad looking even weaker now, he has been incredibly useful off the bench since Ross came in.

Speedy recovery Stevie.

Hopefully his recovery goes as planned. He could be an important player to have back toward the end of the season.

Massive blow, hugely underrated by some imo.

Leaves us incredible weak in the middle of the park now.

Would be an ideal time to sign Dyl......oh no wait - too late.

Speedy recovery Mallan, he has his critics but he’s been in our team more than out.

Probably our best non 1st choice midfielder. Strength in depth would be a good thing right about now......

Utterly gut wrenching. They're not Hibs fans by definition- no matter what they think or anyone else wants to argue. Sickening.

Will be a big loss, we were crying out for him to be on the bench at livi I felt. Really no depth at all in midfield now and yes 2 months isn’t the end of the season but it’s the 2 months that will define the season. Defo need 2 CMs. A holding midfielder to move hallberg up and then another to provide back up/ replace slivka

How overly dramatic.

A real blow to weaken our midfield options, but it might force our hand to make sure the position is bolstered this window.

Or give some of the young boys a shot.

There’s that as well of course.

I’ve not seen enough of the younger players to have a view on how they are equipped to step in, but the search for a defensive midfielder will surely still continue as a priority.

JR said in a recent Hibs TV interview that the results of Mallan's tests would determine what we would be doing in the transfer window, so I'd hope that they have someone in mind.

Is there a Josh Vela injury update? You would have to hope he would get respectfully shifted too.

Gutting for Stevie and bad news for the team. Hopefully he makes a full and swift recovery.

Tough blow that. With so many games coming up the odd set piece goal could be vital.

Disappointed for Stevie, who I think is a very good player in his best position but I do think it is a position that we have well covered.

I’m a wee bit more concerned that Ross was waiting to find out about this before making any moves as that suggests he might think Mallan is something that he isn’t. We’ve got Allan ahead of him in the queue and I reckon Newell, Murray, Whittaker or Hallberg could comfortably deputise there.

We need more quality and more depth deeper in midfield, somewhere Mallan should never be expected to play.

That's two midfielders we need in this window now

You're doing them an undeserved favour by calling them "fans."

They are fans whether you like it or not.

To the main point we now need a DM and CM. Better get a move on Hibs.

Moves Fraser Murray up the pecking order I'd imagine.

Not a huge blow, unless something happens to Scotty A, he wasn't getting much game time anyway.

He’s done all right since Ross came in, particularly coming off the bench.

Think he has done well recently and very good option from the bench. Played well in the Derby and can't remember him taking any sore ones so a surprise he was injured in that game. Thought we missed him v Livi even as option from bench as a good attacking player.

Shouldn't be a first team choice so not as big a blow as some are making out. Yes we lose a good option on the bench but nothing more imo.

I would be focussing on a proper centre mid this window rather than bringing in yet another lightweight attacking midfielder.

Mallan is a good player when played in his proper role, but his game time there is limited because Allan is better. We've also got Newell and this is also the opportunity for Murray to step up as the back up.

Let's focus on getting the one player that we genuinely need instead of spreading the budget to add cover for two months.

That post covers it for me.
Need to lay our hands on the best quality defensive mid we can get our hands on. Probably a loan until the end of the season so should be easily within our budget.

I believe he's been playing with an issue for a wee while now.

Decision was taken to bite the bullet and have surgery now. Number of games missed is reduced and he's back for last part of the season.

Might explain why he's been below par?

Seemingly been playing with an injury for a few months, brave and committed lad

This is an opportunity for Fraser Murray to step up to the plate. It could be similar to Porteous taking his chance last season.

We really need to give our youngsters a chance or there is no sense in having an academy. The money spent on it could be used to sign better quality players.
