They've assembled a decent squad and are a defacto SPL club. We will have to perform to go through. I think we'll prevail, but it might take two ties. 1-1 with 3-1 Hibs in the replay at ER.

Not sure it can be described as a banana skin. Any Championship team away from home is going to be tricky, especially after the winter break, and we were unlucky enough to get the best one.

I'll take a draw right now.

They are 14 points clear at the top of the league, and we are only 12 points ahead of the other lot!!!
Why on earth would we be worried about relegation, and they know they've skooshed their league!!!
If that quote had come from Levein we would have been laughing on here!!!!
This will be very tight a win by the odd goal, not sure who for though???

It’s a game that is very similar to ourselves when we were down there. We fancied our chances when we played a top flight team and Utd will as well. I’ve seen them a few times this season and they haven’t looked anything special, but they’re miles ahead in the league so they’ve obviously got something about them. In these games it’s all about what we do, if we play well we’ll win if we don’t we will be in for a tough game. I’m going to say 5-0 hibs :greengrin

The Captain....
10-01-2020, 07:20 PM
Pretty difficult to predict a Hibs performance with any certainty of late. Every time we seem to turn a corner we put in a disappointing effort. Utd have looked decent when I've seen them and move the ball quickly with lots of one touch stuff so it wont be easy.

I'd take a draw and get them back to ER.

United are built on a pretty solid defence, think they’ve only conceded 3 goals in their last 11 games which is pretty impressive even in the championship. Don’t think their midfield is anything special but obviously Shankland and, to a lesser extent, Clark are big goal threats.

HappyAsHellas
10-01-2020, 08:01 PM
If we have to worry about Clark being up front we're in trouble. Saw them a few times this season and in the last derby Dundee were by far the better side. Fully expect a comfortable 3 - 0 for us.

I'm not getting a lot of the pessimism on this thread.

Teams riding high at top of Championship have done well against premiership clubs in recent seasons in any similar fixtures ( Ross County winning at Motherwell last season, us beating Hearts 2 seasons in a row).

Dont think the winter break does top flight club any favours so I can understand some worries and wouldnt be gutted with a draw.

They will fancy their chances but their only real competition this season has been against a team we sent one of our young players on loan to for regular football. Huge step up playing Hibs to Alloa, Arbroath and Parkick or any of the other teams in that league. Not saying it'll be easy though

Dundee United were held to a draw by Hearts at the start of the season. I suspect they've improved since then so this is a tricky tie. Their 17 point lead at the top of the "championship" means that they can afford to have a good cup run without it damaging their promotion prospects.

Pessimism? More nervous realism I think. Playing away after a break against a team riding high with a winning mentality and with a striker on a hot streak, I'd def take a draw, esp given some of our recent 5H1te performances, and I include in that the second half at Tiny.
Jambo pal said of the season we won the championship that we were the third best team in Scotland at the time. It would be stretching it to say that of Utd despite their huge lead, but for sure they'd be holding their own in the Prem. If we were away to the likes of Saints, Livvie, Killie who were boosted by being on a run of 11/12 we'd def be very wary of forecasting the sort of comfortable win some are suggesting.
Any sort of draw will be a good result.

A draw would be a far better result for them than us. I hope Jack Ross is drilling it in to the players that we are the bigger club and better side from a better league. A draw or defeat should be unacceptable tbh. The 3000 that are turning up don't expect us to go out to a lower division side.

We played in Europe, put Hearts out the Scottish Cup after a replay, then lost to a very decent Aberdeen side in the semi. McGeough scored iirc, must have had a nosebleed :greengrin

On the flip side we lost to someone like QoS in the league cup.....

We also had the league won comfortably.

While this is probably the "lower league side" nobody really wanted and everyone will be talking them up, relating it to that season, Hibs were (IMO) a significantly better side 16/17 than Utd are today, simply based on being fairly regularly tested against higher division teams over that period.

p.s. A win at Tynie is always a great win - we dug and dug and dug in while Hearts threw everything they had at us. It wasnt *****.

When the draw was made, I was confident we'd get through quite comfortably. We had started picking up results and I thought they'd be throwing everything at the league and not the cup.

Now, they've got the league wrapped up and we've went back to struggling a little bit. Don't think Livi and Ross County are good teams and they beat us so it won't be straightforward. Looks like a draw to me now.

2-2 draw. Then 3-1 Hibs in the replay.

Exactly. We've been beat off worse teams than United quite recently, and going to Tannadice won't be easy. The league they are playing in is irrelevant on the day.

Similar performance to Tynecastle required. They’ll be looking to take the game to us early on, which would leave us with a bit space. Hit them early, kill the game, win the tie.

Hibby Kay-Yay
13-01-2020, 12:08 PM
Unless we bolster our midfield, I’d say that a Utd victory is on the cards. They get a lot of crosses into the box and out diamond midfield will give them time and space to ping them into Shankland.

If we don’t play a diamond then we have every chance of getting a result. I think we’ll go 4-5-1 and could win 0-1 or 1-2.

I wasn't saying it wasn't a great win/result at Tiny. It was. What was 5h1te was our 2nd half performance, unless you want to give lavish praise to a backs-to-the-wall performance against a team as bad as them. Play in such an unproductive manner against Utd like we did in that 2nd half against them, or as we did against Livvie (ie our last 135 minutes of properly competitive football), and given that Shankland is in such form, I won't be betting on a Hibs win, never mind proclaiming that we are going to win easy. I'll be c0ck-a-hoop if we do and delighted to have my pessimism rammed down my throat should it prove to be wildly wrong.

We only have a slim chance of catching Motherwell and Aberdeen. They’re well ahead of us and making moves to strengthen. We will add at some point, I’m sure, but the cup is our most realistic chance of doing anything this season.

Thats a real shame for him, hes been having a stormer of a season.

They did say in commentary that when he went down, one of the other players turned away in a "cant look" kind of way so you knew it was a bad one.

He really is one of the guys who pulls the strings for Utd so a bit of a blow for them - cant see it affecting them winning the league though.

I wonder if the Utd fans will still boo Scott Allan? and I suspect the answer is Yes in which case 0:1 (Allan pen).

I think it’ll be 3-0 or 3-1 Hibs

I don't think we'll win...….sorry!

Think it'll be a 1-1 draw, which I'd take right now

Hibs are 13/10 to win with Utd 2/1. Decent prices.

Hope the bookies are reading it better than me - I'd have us slightly closer together in the betting.

Arab in work adamant we'l be ripped apart by Shankland, so i'll go for 3-3 and 2-1 at ER.

2-4 Hibs. A brace for Shankland and a hat-trick for Kamberi. Boyle to get our fourth.

I’m wondering, are there some amongst us travelling to this game expecting us to get beaten?
Think the recent cup semi against Celtic is the only time I’ve traveled through to a game ,pretty much knowing we would lose .
4-2 for Hibernian fc on Sunday.

So three posters correctly scoring it 2-2 . With two saying we win the replay 2-0 and 3-1 . If any are correct ,do they get 5 bonus points .
