Norrie McCathie was one of these players who was a rock for his club and it was truly a tragic death. I remember him having a decent game in the 1991 Skol Cup final against us - with Davie Moyes also in the Pars team.

Remember it well. McCathie was Mr Dunfermline. Pars had Billy Davies too.

If you look back at the game it's extraordinary how slow the pace of play is!

One of my best mates was a regular in the East Port and I had a good few sessions in there with him. He's a Raith ST holder and it was known that I'm a hibee. Norrie McCathie was really sound and he was certainly capable of giving as good as he got when it came to football craic (as was John Watson).

It's a pity that players being so linked with a specific club is becoming rarer and rarer.

I worked in Fife at the time of his death and the grief run deep amongst them, not only Pars. He certainly seemed like a good fellah to be around, warts and all.
