Always remember him as being a good player.

Before my time, but he also scored in the World Cup win.

For the English though, they are all icons. He always looked younger than he was. Even in his Norwich City days.

Always remember the David Coleman commentary v Scotland "Peters - the ghost" as he glided in unnoticed at the far post.

Fabulous player.

Much as I didn't like him in an England team he was a superb player and used to ghost into the box and a very cool finisher. Always dreaded him playing against Scotland as it was guaranteed he either score or set one up. R.I.P

One of the gentlemen of the game. Elegant and evasive.

Martin Peters was a brilliant player, in nowadays money he'd be worth millions. I know several people who met him and every one of them said he was a gentleman, a quiet unassuming kind of bloke. RIP.

I read a quote from his Wiki page (Danny Baker tweeting it I think) that Peters moved into the insurance business when he retired and was made redundant in 2001.

A World Cup winner made redundant. Unthinkable how our ‘game’ has changed.
